For my personal answer, I would put it as follows:

Settling

Your not really bothered about the person. Your more bothered about the status, be that in a relationship, married what so ever. You try and get with someone your attracted to. But if that dosn't happen, you just go for whoever who give you the status you want and repulses you the least. Maybe you will be able to exploit them for your benefit, sex, money, a house, whatever. You don't really care about them, its just so you can say your [insert status here] and be validated by your peer group.

Being Attracted to someone

Its more about the person. If you get into a relationship or get married, its because you want to be with that person, not the status they will give you.
