Yeah that's a pass for me. I don't see a problem with anime itself, but if we're talking about guys that obsess about it, glowing red flag. In my experience these guys are a time waste.

Depends on the anime and how much of a fan they are. If they have a bunch of girl figurines and likes those softcore porn animes, then no.

Certain fighting animes suck as well. The women portrayed in them are often the subject of sexual harassment and extremely demeaning outfits.

The only safe anime imo are the ones targeted towards women or are written by women.

If anyone is interested, here’s my favorite animes! The Rose Of Versailles, Revolutionary girl Utena, Full metal alchemist: brotherhood, puella magi madoka magica, hyouka, noragami, any studio ghibli movie, ouran high school host club and many more!

I feel like there should be a whole post on Nerdom and dating. I spent most of my life being a 'nerd' with anime and gaming. My experience? DON'T EVER DATE A MAN WHO IDENTIFIES AS A NERD.

My experience has been that not only do they have the misogyny, entitlement and sexism that most men have they ALSO have zero social skills, are usually anxiety ridden/mentally ill and do nothing to cope with it or even TRY to do therapy, have low self esteem that YOU have to bolster AND have an insane amount of unbridled anger towards women.

Every. Single. Man. I ever tried to date in the nerdosphere has been a disaster.

DON'T. DATE. NERDS.

95% of anime is fanservice trash. There are a few that are incredible and worth watching but the anime industry is now geared towards horny 14 year old boys. Seriously, there are articles on how the Japanese animation industry is targeting western audiences, hence the giant anime tiddies and crotch shots.

Very few people in Japan are actually super obsessed with anime. It's mostly nerdy, horny American boys.

I don't know what to say. I'm sure somewhere there is a decent man who likes gaming/anime but the majority of them are just train wrecks. Finding a well rounded, mentally healthy NON sexist male gamer nerd would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

For me it depends on which ones they watch and if they have any attachment for the female characters in it. I do enjoy some animes, the plots are interesting and the character development can be quite good.

If they are obsessive about it/have a waifu (still can't wrap my head around that crap) it's a hard no for me. Too much of a red zone. Saw a profile while swiping through an OLD app that the guy had IN his pictures his posters of an anime female character, it was so cringey. Thank you for the immediate red flag! But seriously dude you're 30 something with these posters looking for a real woman...😬

Some animes and mangas (generally made by women, like Fullmetal Alchemist) are great. But while men will watch those too, they tend to be mostly obsessed with the ones where women are oversexualised and useless. Anime is a medium I really enjoy and it's a shame it caters to men so much, it would be so much better if you didn't have to trudge through tons of trash to find a decent one just because the easiest way to make money out of men is to show them boobs and underage girls 🤮

I‘ve watched anime since I was little and (outside of Ghibli and a few others) 90% is trash. Even some of the good shows might have trash elements here and there.

Technically it‘s a medium not a genre, but most shows follow similar premises and tropes b/c they sell the most. A lot of anime is also targeted at teens and young adults so anyone older who is seriously invested in a high school anime would be sus to me. (I’d feel the same if it was a high school TV show for example.) Certain genres tend to attract the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of fans so yeah. A lot of shows peddle sexist and misguided ideas about women and girls and it‘s disgusting. Not to mention the clear p*do undertones too many shows have. The creator of Inuyasha had to sign a separate contract with the studio that made her show, to ensure they didn‘t sneak in up skirt shots. 🤢

I couldn’t deal with anyone obsessed with anime outside of watching (a good) show now and again. But if they are weebs, have trinkets, figurines, posters then no.

I do enjoy anime myself especially josei for mature women but the LVM are annoying. I dunno if anyone watched parasyte but that was one I enjoyed recently.

You just gotta dig through for the gems. Princess jellyfish was one that was funny and developed plot too.

My first anime was Pokémon in 1st grade. I learned how to tell time just so I would know when it’s on. My cousin said when the long hand is on 6 and the short hand is between 4 and 5, it’s Pokémon time.

That ones is geared towards little kids so they’re more careful.

The creators were colorist against Brock and they made him a perv who likes every woman. And they replaced him shortly with Tracy because Brock was darker. Fans loved him so much though they brought him back and Tracy lad disappeared

Anime guys are losers. If they watch it they have too much time on their hands. I like guys that use their free time for self improvement, like working out or doing some type of sport

Eh depends, I like anime as well but depends on what anime they like and how much they are into them.

I watch them a bit at my free time and maybe I'll buy a t-shirt or something that reminds me of them, but I wouldn't buy like a body pillow or overly obsess over a character or call them "waifu" :/

Depends on the anime.

If they are not critical of the paedophilia tendencies in anime, and don't mind or never noticed the the extremely stereotypical and servile portrarayals of women in most anime, then yes they are LVM. If they watch some of the better anime and are aware of those flaws, I wouldn't flag them as LVMs because of that alone.

i agree for the most part. obviously there's nothing wrong with having watched studio ghibli or something like detective conan or sailor moon as a kid and feeling nostalgia. or even occasionally watching it as an adult.

but those hardcore fans and self-proclaimed otakus are glaring red flags and i'd keep my distance.

I honestly find it weird. I have very little exposure to it though, and I think my preconceived notions would make it hard for me to have any objective view on it. If the guy fangirl's though, regardless if it's anime or something else, that's probably gonna be an automatic no for me.

Even in Japan, anime is not something people proudly speak of watching. Only Studio Ghibli is an exception to them, as for me. I grew up watching anime and there are some great animes out there but surronded in a sea of trash. I made the mistake of not vetting hard enough about anime with an ex-LVM and it was a huge mistake. Do not let a man get off by saying a genre of anime. Ask for shows, if you know them then ask in detail about the plots to see if he is trying to hide his r*pe hentai addiction by just naming shows he knows of. If you don't watch anime yourself, I would suggest avoiding men who watch anime entirely. There is only a specific rare strain of HVM who don't fall into the incel, woman hating weeb pile. And all men I know who regularly watch anime, I would not date myself, period. It is the men I have introduced anime to who are often HVM.

I probably will get a lot of hate for this.

But men watching anime of all kinds -- that include Studio Ghibli movies -- is a no-no for me. He doesn't have to be into it, just watch it regular enough here and there. Unless they themselves can point to me what's wrong with it.

IMO if they're familiarized themselves with materials that have over-simplified & INFANTILIZED representations of the human emotions (especially those of women), more often than not, those representations will form their expectation of how we women should act & react.

Take ANGER for example. Even in Studio Ghibli which used to be my favorite type of movies, the girl/ women characters look cute when they're angry. It pisses me off because women watching anime can tell that's not reality but men with their damaged brains obviously cannot. Whenever I get angry over something they told me that in those movies the girl character gets angry but they don't look scary but I do look scary so I must be hating them (!!)

So yea, I've worked too hard on my self-worth to be associated with men who "learn" from anime of all kinds.

Nope. Im grossed out everytime I see some anime girls and theyre always in some weird submissive pose with big tits. (I was looking up pictures of My Little Pony with my sister so she can pick one to print out and some weird anime girls showed up in the images) Pretty sure all guys who watch anime also watch hentai. Theres pedophilic tones in anime and I dont like it.
