Or the male population will be shrunk to the point that polygamy would be the only obvious choice now that the "manlets" are all but dead.

Oh and not to mention the countless number of other men that didn't want anything to do with women forced to fight in these arenas simply because they are male and its in their "nature" to fight for women.

Human civilizations' growth will be severely stunted due to the lack of physical manpower, corporations will have huge leverage now that their consumer base is going to be even larger. With less men in the picture, they can justify lowering wages under the guise that the demand is 'somehow' lower. Already unmaintained infrastructure will crumble even faster.

Well it wouldn’t be men, because people start wanting to breed as teenagers, so it would be boys. And it wouldn’t be strength and intelligence, but luck and training.

It would probably make society shitty because young boys would spend their lives training to kill up until that point. Then you have a society of murderous teenage boys running around getting girls pregnant. It sounds bad.

Well, no. Because at that point you're only selecting for fighting to the death rather than anything else and that wouldn't build a stable society.

You're also assuming that women would be willing to acquiesce to it, and I doubt that we would because we're not really interested in being told who we have to breed with.

All of that being said however, hand to hand or swords?

Depends on the specifics, a coliseum deathmatch deal is only going to reward brute strength 99% of the time. This might make more sense in some pre-industrial society where physical strength would actually be the one trait most indicative of high value, instead of now where we live in a knowledge economy that rewards other intangible traits with success.

Also you're assuming that the survivors happen to have both physical strength and intelligence bundled together, instead of the more realistic scenario where the majority of the smartest but relatively weaker men end up getting pulverized by muscle men, and occasionally the strongest guys get outsmarted by the smart guys out of sheer luck or fatigue.

Interesting question. I think it would make things simpler but I don't think it would happen in-society or in-nation(because tribalism), but it would if it was inter-society, simply, nations would compete, there would be drafts and mandatory military training. It would make it simpler because you'd have the weakest males of the society die off if the country lost, but if they won, then those males who wouldn't have had any mating opportunities back home could breed with the females of the conquered country, so it could work... in a Mad Max world.
