Women live longer than men so logically shouldn't they have to work longer to support themselves longer in retirement?

[–]ThePiachu 156 points157 points158 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I remember back in the day in Poland some people complaining that women don't get much in the way of pensions when they retire and I thought to myself - "you retire earlier and live longer, therefore your money is stretched thinner, what do you expect?"

Women also work less than men and in less dangerous and stressful jobs, not to mention that the entire workplace caters to them.

Capitalism needs long hours wage slavery so they will whine about sexism because the economy doesn't want flexible workers feminists will always find something to complain about and that is why, we need to put them in their place and very soon.

Women have to take care of children

[–]lorgskyegon 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not at retirement age

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, men can do that too.

[–]EldianTitanShifter 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, in some places maybe. Nowadays you have feminists arguing womem shouldn't have to spend as much time to raise the kids, and have others do it so both parents can work. Women would prefer not to take care of children nowadays actually, wanting to do other stuff instead, and even when they do, they often get the support of, you guessed it, men. (Or just a babysitter or other family members, not mom directly)

It's not like men don’t do anything to help raise children, the whole argument made for so long about men not helping to raise kids as much never made much sense to me. Females often care for the offspring more at a young age directly, while the male does other important things to help provide for said offspring (and mom as well since she's also in a more vulnerable state) to ensure kid grows up safely and succeed, like with some other mammals.

And obviously as humans, once the kid gets older, mom doesn't have to go through that care as much and now basically serves the same purpose as dad does, albeit is a bit weaker of course as the Female in most cases, although 2 parents are usually better than one.

Plus, since women don't work as often compared to their male counterparts, after a certain age when the kid is able to start doing more stuff on it's own, well, mom isn't as vital in that original purpose anymore.

[–]tenchineuro 193 points194 points195 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Then by UN standards, men and women are equal in this regard.

[–]nacho-chonky 65 points66 points67 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup the UN only measures disadvantages for women, they refuse to even acknowledge that men have gender specific issues

[–][deleted] 145 points146 points147 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

The UN would find some loose data point and then frame it something like "Women are starting to retire older and older each year: here's why it's because of men's oppressing them"

[–]hottake_toothache 53 points54 points55 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women >= men is the UN standard.

Men Live 79% as Many Years in Retirement as Women

The average man lives significantly fewer years in retirement than the average woman. This happens because men have a lower life expectancy than women in practically every country in the world, and because the age of retirement is higher for men than women in some countries (counter-intuitively, given the life expectancy gap).

The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), a group made up of 35 mostly highly-developed market economies (pictured below), keeps data on this. The OECD average in 2014 was 17.6 years of retirement for men and 22.3 years of retirement for women, giving the 79% figure in the title.

In my country retirement used to be different for various professions, people like miners, war veterans etc. retired well before age of 50, women were rewarded for birthing lot of kids and the latest age for anyone was 55. Today no one, no matter what they did in life, can retire before 65 years without having their pension reduced and the government wants to raise it even more. Someone my age will quite possibly never retire before dying, fml.

The "patriarchy" and "male privilege" in full effect

[–]AreYou4RealM8 45 points46 points47 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Eventually, women will start earning more than men. When they finally accomplish this, men will be able to retire earlier since they are the lower paid members of society. Once we get to this point, men will live in luxury as women have for so long.

At least the tides are turning here and soon enough men will get some of that female privilege.

[–]NoMoreMisterMaybe 81 points82 points83 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's extremely wishful thinking that relies on the assumption society will fund men being the primary tax burden. Given our wealth of history indicating otherwise, I doubt it.

[–]dingoperson2[S] 44 points45 points46 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

HAHAHA, nice satire

[–]mera1066 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminazis are not going to watch males retire earlier than females! They will scream, it's not fair, males are living off of us, and we want equality!!

[–]TC1851 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

I doubt it. Women under 30 earn more yet they still expect to marry up and systemically oppress Men into marrying down. They want more oppurtunities than Men but also want to live of male labour. Nothing has changed because of the one sided nature of "equality" being pursued by our feministic society

[–]tenchineuro 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I doubt it. Women under 30 earn more yet they still expect to marry up and systemically oppress Men into marrying up.

Men don't seem to really care about marrying down or up, but the number of boys who have seen what happens in divorce is very large and today the marriage rate is the lowest since records were kept. This is not an MRM victory, this is a natural reaction to the feminist gains upon traditionalism.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

"Women under 30 earn more"

No, childless single women under 30 earn more than childless single men under 30 but after adjusting for educacional attainment men in that group actually earn more than women, there is a massive gender gap in education on that group, a female surplus on degree holders and a male surplus among those without degrees so the overrepresentation of undereducated men and highly educated women creates a reversed gender earning gap.

[+]yaboi_gamasennin -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because they’ve been taught that they need a big, strong, tall, white, rich man to marry by society. The fact that they make money while many men under 30 are jacking off in their parent’s house when not working at mcdonalds or walmart doesn’t suddenly remove all of their societal conditioning

[–]Nath43673 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could have simply pointed out that women are subject to certain gendered expectations too, but instead you decided to call young men lazy?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol the only way that could happen is if women suddenly start working in the same parameters as men or if they start massively underpaying men, on thing is for sure, the massive overrepresentation of women in universities will result in mass male unemployment.

[–]TC1851 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Now listen here you mysoginsitic incel. Women get paid 30% less for the same work and have to do so much unpaid emotional labour when it comes to raising kids. And we have to deal with you mysoginstis. Besides, working is harder on Women due to workplaces being rooted in toxic patriarchal norms such as A/Cs designed for your suits over my miniskirts and tanktops. So why don't you shut up and #CheckYourPrivilege

Wasn't it only until recently that in the US and some other countries (which ones?) the retirement age was gendered and men retired later?

[–]tenchineuro -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure that this has never happened anywhere.

Where did you get this feminist bullshit?

[+]whateverBRIAN1 points 5 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

What? Nothing feminist at all about my statement... You must be misreading my post... I'm saying that it used to be that in the US and many other countries that the retirement age for men was set higher (65 vs 60 for example). But it looks like according to the wiki that it was equalized for men and women IN THE US.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You must be misreading my post...

Sorry, I did. Thought you said that men retired earlier.

Please accept my apologies.

To the best of my knowledge, in the entire civilized world women retire earlier and live longer.

EDIT: That's what you get for breaking out the champagne a few hours early I guess.

Happy New Year everyone.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it happened in the u.k and feminists tried to force the government to keep pension age lower for women but they luckily did not succeeded.

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women: we have to give birth, women have it so much harder than men.

men have died working in mines, saving people from criminals via police departments, saving people from burning buildings via the fire department, construction working, etc

Also women: we can do everything a man can.

refuses to fix their own problems and blames men for not doing it for them

These obviously aren't 100%, but it's pretty close

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What is the exact reason behind women having a shorter retirement

[–]dejour 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not sure. I'd be interested in knowing.

I'd guess two things:

  • Women tend to marry older men, so having women retire earlier means their retirements can coincide better with their husbands.
  • Women traditionally have had more career interruptions and made less money. So they were owed smaller pensions and it wasn't a big deal to give women an earlier retirement benefit

[–]940387 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is one of the things where I support everyone getting an official sex change at women's retirement age. Then they'll realize it's BS.

[–]RopyRaj 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Who is responsible for this though? Seems like it must be other men!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So much for "we live in a patriarchy".

Feminists are trash.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glad to see some countries are reforming it to be equal.

But there’s no possible justification for this to begin with.

[–]FractalGarlicClove 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So who has the higher retirement age in all the other countries. If men are higher then woman in 35 countries and woman higher then men in 0. What has the highest retirement age in the other 158 countries?

[–]faze_not_phase_123 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

lol it’s equal in those countries

[–]FractalGarlicClove -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I’m Not buying that at all!

[–]GyratingPollygong 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't understand. It's the patriarchy that forces women to retire sooner, because men think women are weak and can't manage to work as late into their lives!

I'm sure it would be justified similarly to that.

[–]antifeminist3 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even in countries with government funded pensions plans with equal retirement ages, the fact that women live longer means that men disproportionately fund women's retirement at the men's expense.

example- Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

The CPP also gives women maternal 'benefits' indirectly by counting time off work as if she was working. So men fund that as well. parental leave is equally counted.

[+]Sbatio -8 points-7 points-6 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I’m all for men’s rights but how many men have babies? None.

How many women have them? 30%

Put that in the math and the labor is fairly even.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

having babies is a choice and women don't suddenly get a men's age pension retirement just because they did not have babies, all women will retire earlier just because they are women.

Pension ages need to be equal among men and women in all places, sorry.

[+]Sbatio -9 points-8 points-7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well it is a choice but it’s not one a man can make and then carry out. Men can work and raise kids too but no kids no us. No one to deliver your Amazon package or spit in your UberEats.

Women bear a physical burden for society which we as men can not.

[–]Nath43673 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And men are vastly overrepresented in physically-demanding jobs, resulting in chronic, debilitating conditions and injuries by the time many of them get to retire.

If you want to set retirement age based on all of these variables, go ahead. There's tests that can be done to determine if a women has been pregnant in her life.

What we don't need is for it to be just based on gender.

[+]Sbatio -6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya I guess if you put an equation in place and account for all of it on both sides. Why not

[+]thetacobitch -12 points-11 points-10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Um okay the average for men is 65 and for women it’s 63. Why are you guys acting like that’s even that significant?😅 are y’all good? There’s also so many things that could even go into explaining those two year differences. Like the fact that men are more often hold executive positions (and similar) and You guys will actually find ANYTHING to make yourselves feel justified in your sexism hahaha. Also, in tons of other countries, ONLY MEN ARE ALLOWED TO WORK. Yet you’re going to sit here and say “zErO oThEr CoUnTrIeS”. Please. The blissful ignorance is wild here. Lol this is so gross😂

[–]peter_venture 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What are you even talking about? Women get full retirement benefits at a younger age than men in 35 countries. Nothing about the jobs they held. Nothing about how long people choose to work. Nothing about 'eh, 63 or 65, close enough'.

No, no matter the circumstance, women get to be done for life with working at a younger age than men in 35 countries. How is this fair? And women live longer than men and so get those full benefits even longer. Why should men just suck it up and accept it.

I'm just thankful this isn't the case in the US.

[–]Redtyger 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Did you know that people who rate highly in percieved victimhood are prone to moral elitism and revenge seeking behavior?

Something you should consider

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
