Before I start my discussion, I want to say a few things just so you know what I believe:
I think there are struggles women go through in life that need to be fixed. I am a college student and I can’t walk around campus or by the streets close to campus without multiple female friends or a male friend with me because of how many reports I have seen of girls going missing/getting drugged. I am not saying only women go missing or get drugged, I know it happens to men too. That is just a personal example of something that affects me but my male friends all say they never worry about walking around alone. That is a small example of hopefully an issue we both agree with.
I was taught that feminism is about ending the gender roles that hurt both genders, not punishing men. For example, to me toxic masculinity isn’t that men are bad, it’s that the gender norms determined by society say that men MUST be strong and dominate. I believe that it is perfectly fine for a man to be strong, but it is also fine for a man to be weak. Toxic masculinity is bad because it is the fact gender roles say men don’t have a choice.
One of the biggest problems that is brought up on this subreddit that I have seen is the inequality in the justice system and with divorce. But that really confused me, because as a feminist I had already fought against those things because it is an issue with gender roles, not with women. For example, women are often trusted more when it comes to custody of a child. That’s because gender roles state women are the caretakers and the homemakers, which is something feminism wants to end. Men are just as capable as caring for a child as a female is, it is sexist to believe only women can care for a child. So I always believed we were fighting for the same issues.
I am not trying to fight anyone, I just honestly want to know if you see where I am coming from, if you agree, or if you knew this already before I even posted. I’m sorry if this has been talked about before, I am new to this. I agree with all of the struggles men face, I just was always taught feminism fights for mens rights as well.
Also, please educate me if I said anything offensive, I don’t mean to offend

Yeah. OP presents a pretty good example of how modern feminists have run out of legitimate problems to fight. "I feel unsafe" is not a societal problem, nor evidence of misogyny. Any person might feel unsafe for any given reason, with or without sufficient cause. "Women have an X% chance of being affected by Y" would be a valid bit of evidence, whereas "As a woman, I am afraid of Y" is not. It could be that you are afraid of Y for good reason, or it could be that you are overly worried about something which you needn't be.
It's pretty baffling how many people try to present, "I feel unsafe when I walk around at night" as a legitimate bit of evidence that women are discriminated against.

To be fair, 71% of people missing between the ages of 12-21 are female, while 73% of people missing as an adult (over 21) is male. So I actually am more at risk as a 20 year old female than my male counterparts. Sex trafficking is the cause of this difference, females are taken far more often for sex trafficking than males.

My ages I stated were slightly different (an accident), but I think my point still stands

I agree with that, females get more sympathy when it comes to crimes and that is an issue. I just get angry when I try to reach out to men and empathize with them but I am only met with erasure of my issues.

I’d really like to thank you, actually. While making this post I was unsure if I even wanted to post it because my perception of MRAs was that they were all secretly sexist and women haters, because that is what I was exposed to by feminist-centered places. I definitely respect this subreddit now, only a handful of the replies are slightly rude and the majority is empathetic, intelligent, and respectful. I definitely feel bad for assuming everyone who fought for this movement was trash when I first learned about it, because that is definitely wrong. I agree with almost everything this subreddit is fighting for, the only difference is I think our reasonings are different. As long as we both fight for the same end result I don’t mind the different reasonings

I definitely agree, we need to communicate more instead of just ranting to likeminded people who already agree with us. Feminists should be more understanding of male specific issues and MRAs should be more empathetic about the discrimination we specifically face. Communicating with each other instead of just protesting would solve more issues. Of course I’m not saying MRAs are the cause of female issues, but it would be a start to work together.
Also I didn’t mean men can be “weak,” I just meant they can have moments of weakness without being shamed, because everyone should be allowed to have moments of weakness

I don’t really understand your point, because I already know all of those things. Those are things I am against. Are you trying to say that bringing light to issues is bad because it is alienating? How are we supposed to fix anything if we don’t talk about toxic masculinity and toxic masculinity. Both of those issues are things to be fixed, not ignored. I apologize if I interpreted your comment incorrectly

To be fair, I don’t think toxic masculinity should be thrown around in conversations unless everyone knows what exactly it means, or it shouldn’t be used with a clear explanation. I think your point is that it’s bad phrasing for a problem that exists, and I agree. Too many boys think toxic masculinity means men are bad, because it is bad wording. There should be a much better term for it. I’m not labelling men as toxic when I say toxic masculinity, it is just unfortunately the term for issues men face. I agree with everything you said, that women must be held accountable just as much as men, that men shouldn’t be ashamed to be vulnerable, etc. I agree it is a bad phrasing, but I don’t know another term to describe everything I mean because it is just used so commonly
