The toxic masculinity part is really confusing to me. None of the trailers show the character being stoic or negative towards sexual minorities or women. The white privilege thing doesn't make much sense either. White people are under-represented in pretty much all categories of crime except for hate crimes. We don't see any obvious hate crimes in any of these trailers.

Think of misandry as a plastic colander. Hanging over your head. It's not a raincloud. It's unnatural and placed there by certain powerful groups, some of which may be feminist, and it's being filled from a source that isn't immediately apparent.

This movie (if it's accurately described by those tweets) is one more hole in that colander.

It's sad that people can't watch a movie for what it is any more. They have to analyse the living fuck out of it and pretentiously assert it's a metaphor for this or an allegory about that. It's not. It's just a movie. At its most basic level, the film communicates the notion that if you kick a dog repeatedly, at some point it's likely to try to rip your arms off. It's not a scandalous outrage, an incitement to violence or even a revelation. It's simple cause and effect. And it has zero to do with race, or gender, or sexuality.

Some of these hysterical critics make me chuckle. For a bunch of ostensibly smart people with an obvious penchant for big words, they're surprisingly dumb. But manufactured outrage is what gets all the clicks, likes, and follows these days I guess. Hypersensitive millennials have all suddenly transformed into Tipper Gore screeching about heavy metal eroding the social fabric of contemporary '80s society, but instead of Judas Priest, it's 'toxic masculinity'. I'm just waiting for Dungeons & Dragons to be wheeled out again for another spin on the outrage-go-round.
