As someone who has children - sometimes they won't sleep, they won't stop crying - it can be an extremely trying and difficult experience, and it's one that you aren't really prepared for if it's your first child especially.
Humans obviously vary wildly from one to the next and some people - like this girl here, clearly have anger management issues ( Another witness told investigators Joe hit a 12-year-old girl with a cellphone cord and pushed her from behind.) - if you have anger management issues, you are really sleep deprived and you genuinely don't know any coping methods for small kids (such as put them in their cot and let them cry for 10 minutes whilst you go and calm down) - then it's probably a bit of a recipe for disaster.
Just to be clear, not excusing her behavior in the slightest - she's completely at fault - but it's important we find out why these things have happened so we can try and stop it happening to the next innocent baby.
"When women commit horrible crimes we analyze it and when men do it we demonize it." Look at the majority of murderer documentaries. It's about analyzing why the men did what they did and what lead them to it.
I'd struggle to give an exact answer to that as I'd want to know what typical sentences are in that state for similar crimes.
Without that knowledge I'd say she definitely needs to have the child taken off of her and be subject to social services to safeguard any future children she has or has contact with. I'd also think a custodial sentence should probably be looked at too.
