I gotta say, seduced is one of the most soft ass bullshit words for this ever. Rape is one of those words where only dark comedians will use it for their material, everyone else it is a flat out harsh word. We apply it to make sure we convey a bad experience even when not in the sexual sense.

Lets try seduced "My eyes were seduced by the HDR of that OLED" sounds like a TV I want to buy! Now lets try rape "My eyes were raped by the HDR of that OLED" That makes it sound like my retinas were fried out. Another example "I couldn't help but buy it, I was seduced by how cool the car looks" "I couldn't help but buy it, I was raped by how cool the car looks" which one would you use in a light humored dinner conversation?

Hmm I wonder how these words work out when applied to a situation we all don't like, lets say a guy dumps toxic waste for 10 years into a mountain stream: "That guy raped mother earth for 10 years" "That guy seduced mother earth for 10 years"

Fuck these assholes, they KNOW seduced is a soft word that has absolutely zero impact behind it.

Often times, this isn’t entirely the media’s fault. In many states (including my own), rape is legally defined as non-consensual penetration of the victim. So assuming it was traditional sex, only men can be charged. Women can only be charged with sexually assault, which of course carries smaller penalties (another huge problem).

Ultimately, it’s the laws that are archaic and wrong. It would be nice if the media stepped up and called it as it is. However, they risk libel suits using literal definitions of the law. And in the court of law that these suits would take place, they’re likely to rule in favor of the plaintiff.
