Italy, less than 2 months ago.

Hate to say it, but for women and men alike we shouldn't be about life sentences. We should focus on rehabilitation and reintroducing them into society as a productive member of society. We have a fetish in America for punishment.

Lol, you people are completely missing the point. You've lost if you think equality means giving harsher punishments to women and that is all this sub is thirsty for. Equality means treating men with the same compassion and understanding that some believe is given to women. The American criminal justice system is unfairly punitive across the board (everyone, quick, point out the extremely few exceptions to this rule to buttress your socially orchestrated need for retribution). Celebrating harsher punishments on women is not the answer. Now I brace myself for the mountain of misinformation and anger that this response will inevitably inspire. (Also, yes this case is reprehensible and this woman deserves a harsh punishment, I'm discussing an overall trend but hey, why bother with nuance when the pitchforks are out.)
