So the FEMALE Professor was trying to teach her about wearing something more appropriate when doing a presentation. From what I read / heard the student wore her "Daisy Dukes" shorts for her trial run for her thesis, and the professor reminded her of the following:

The class does not have a formalized dress code, but asks students to “dress appropriately for the persona [they] will present,”

“I am not responsible for anyone’s attention because we are capable of thinking for ourselves and we have agency,” Chai said.

Yes she is correct, you cannot control everyone's behavior 100%, but studies have shown that regardless of being male or female, how you dress influences peoples perception about you and what you are speaking about.

A male international student in the class made a comment during the discussion that the speaker has a “moral obligation” to her audience to dress conservatively during her thesis presentation, at which point Chai left the room with two students following to comfort her.

Chai, who had dressed in a blue button down and cutoff jean shorts, "But I'm so fucking adorable in this outfit!"

“I’ve gotten so many messages from students … [saying] ‘this happens to me in so many different classes on so many different occasions,’” Chai said during the discussion. “That is not okay.”

So her solution? Strip down to her bra and panties to give the actual thesis. If I was the Professor I would give her an F on the principle of it alone. Is this what she is going to do in the real world? In the real world that would get you fired in a heartbeat.

So she decided to behave like an idiot by taking her clothes off and the first thing she does is screech about a professor telling her her shorts are too short, feminism in a nutshell. I have to say though I found both responses to be pretty idiotic, it's like watching feminists and pro-lifers arguing about abortion it gets so daft you don't want anything to do with either side.

I think the statement she wanted to make rings true. People should be able to wear whatever they want without restriction of rules set in place by authority figures. Society will always judge people and will judge men and women both, based on what they wear, I feel like a different person when I dress poorly compared to dress all spiffy.

In this instance, I don't believe that anyone should have made a comment on her appearance, but on many of my class grade rubrics there is a section for professionalism that focuses on dress, speech, appearance, demeanor, etc. Since you are supposed to adapt to the audience. Meaning that the Professor should have marked her down on the grades for lack of professionalism; unless her presentation called for that manner of wear.

In her most import presentation you should dress simple and indiscreet so people focus on your message and not be distracted with what you are wearing. This os what you want to do in job presentation. When you go to the real world. I don't really see what this has to do with men's rights, other than maybe arguing the hypothetical outcome of what might happen if a male were to act in this way. Formal dress and expectations of 'professional attire' is a ridiculous notion. It's a draconian notion that expensive looking clothes make a person more intelligent, diligent, or upstanding. Piercings, tattoos, certain types of clothing all have negative connotations and why? Because it has a stereotype of having low intelligence, poor decision making, low income, etc. For someone to be 'respected' they have to dress and act like everyone else that is 'respected' instead of showing their strengths as an individual, which includes their own sense of fashion. Telling someone they need to 'dress up' to be professional isn't any better than telling a male to 'man up' because that's what society dictates he should do.
