I thought it was a platitude by now that feminism is patriarchy (or patriarchal paternalism), dialled up.

Our instinct to protect and provide for women explains feminism, traditionalism, the lack of a credible MRM, the fear and aversion that the mere mention of men's issues awaken in most of society, and the fact that a movement that is often more extreme than other movements we universally revile, is condoned and even celebrated.

so then as feminists we should take the few that are reported as doubly serious...and instead of doubting the severity or extent of male victimization of DV or rape and refusing to fund or help them or hell even acknowledge them, we should double down our efforts and certainly at a minimum never make light of it.

Unless we know our own in-house patriarchy theory is bullshit, in which case we should continue to ignore it.

Feminists were given virtually all the taxpayer funding for service provision relating to sexual abuse and domestic violence. They could have smashed that patriarchy by NOT excluding male victims.

It took me a long time to understand what feminists mean by the term 'patriarchy', and I think they should change the word to something more gender neutral. As it was explained to me, patriarchy is a set of attitudes about gender, held by both men and women, that affect both men and women. So what they mean is that when a man is a victim of domestic violence, the men and women that make up the police and court systems do not take it as seriously as when a woman is a victim of domestic violence, because patriarchal beliefs bias them to think that men can "take it" better, or that women are "too weak" to do any real damage. A real feminist would want to change patriarchal beliefs such that men who are victims of domestic violence would be treated just as seriously as a woman is.

So anyway "patriarchy" is meant to refer to a set of attitudes and beliefs about gender held by both genders; it's not a group of people, and not exclusively men.

Boom. Nailed it. Although feminists will go to their grave claiming that society doesn't take domestic violence seriously, because one time a man was accused of it but not arrested.
