It's certainly true that the 'reason' for the notion of "women and children first" (at least the 'women' part of that concept) is related to women's role in reproduction - The harsh reality is that if we were to lose 90% of the male population society would recover a LOT faster than if we lost 90% of the female population. This is why females have historically been 'protected' to a much greater extent than men and recognizing this reality isn't a "feminist" notion; it's just reality and a huge privilege that females have had since before recorded history.

Feminism however looks at this rather obvious privilege as if it's some form of 'oppression'. they want all the "rights" without taking on all of the responsibilities.

When the US was formed for instance Men did not have the "right to vote" - only property owners/tax payers were allowed to vote. It wasn't until 1868 that the property owner/tax payer requirement was completly eliminated and 2 years later the 15th amendment eliminated the 'non-white' clause (although Jim Crow laws were widely used for quite a while to supress black voters) - Since the founding of this country men have been subject to military conscription; (long before they gained the ability to vote) - back in the early 1970's when the 26th amendment was being debated; one of the primary arguments for lowering the age from 21 to 18 was due to the fact that males could be conscripted at 18 but weren't eligible to vote until they were 21. This was 50 years after the 19th amendment passed granting females the vote without any demands that they also subject themselves to military conscription.

True equality demands that you accept equal responsibility before you go seeking equal results.

She is correct. Men are more individually disposable due to the fact that women have babies.

Before we decided equality was a goal, men had benefits that traded off against the extra detriments they had. That kept society going because it kept men motivated.

But then people wanted equality, and because it's not achievable men have become second class citizens. And now that men are dropping out of society... we'll figure out why those gender roles were so necessary.

Also, wealthy families have a lower infant mortality rate, so we should really only save poor men last. Leave them behind with the disabled and the mentally ill, strap them down if you have to. It's for equality.

And don't forget, labour intensive jobs don't suit women "coz periods" lol

I like how she talks about undoing centuries of bs but uses women's childbearing capabilities as a reason for why women are preserved over men. Reproduction was basically all women were deemed useful for in the past, right? So, how exactly is that an acceptable [feminist] reason for feminism to make a claim like this in the first place?

If that were the motivation, only the women of child bearing age would be helped out and your grandmother would be left to fend for herself. Also, the known lesbians would be left behind. The other problem with this charming excuse for androcide is that it just doesn't work out economically -- one man and ten women may be able to produce as many children as ten men and ten women, but they sure as hell ain't gonna produce as much money! Who the fuck do you think is going to hunt and build and bleed and die if society collapsed and reverted back to a primordial state? Hint: it's not going to be the women. Look me dead in the eyes and tell me trying to nurture starving kids is more important than actually having food/water/shelter/safety.

Both sexes matter equally. Both from a humanitarian perspective and a practical one (the latter of which you could argue can also be humanitarian).

Without women to reproduce and nurture we have no future, and without men we have no present. At least the segregated way we currently handle gender roles. If women had a little more grit and men were permitted to show a more caring side, then maybe things would be less simple.
