I know, conspiracy theory but it just seems like they hatched a plan when they couldn't buy his property to marry and kill this guy once he had made a will. Luckily he saw through it and rewrote the will before she offed him.

Just looking at the way this guy lived the revised will looks exactly like what you would expect the guy to do with his assets: Leave the huts to his tenants who were probably the only people he saw regularly his whole life.
