As a male feminist (go heforshe and all that) I tend to see a lot of man hating and I'm always pretty quick to tell anyone M or F to shut the fuck up about it. It does, however sometimes lead to a biased view of men's rights activism because it is rarely shared in a good light by feminists, and even then it's only the smarter ones. It is due to this that I came into this subreddit with a tinge of scepticism, but I have to say I'm actually really happy with what I've read so far.

Firstly, I have to say that we have to stop trusting studies so much. They're so easily used to propagate stupid agendas. Feminists do it (feminazis even more so) and men's rights activists do it too. I'm not saying they have no value, I'm saying they're not the law of how the world works, they're a shot in the dark. Watch last week tonight's episode about it, John Oliver does a fairly good job of explaining the lee way you have when you have that much data.

Secondly, the rape arguments aren't opposed. The two groups just focus on different areas, with feminists focusing on trying to lower rape rates and the social constructs that allow it, while men's rights activists focus on the problem of false accusations. Obviously both pay attention to the other's focus. I don't think going against feminism is a way to stop false accusations, nor do I think man hating is a way to stop rape. Working together would help cure both. As a whole, I still think that rape is a larger problem than false accusations, due to sheer numbers, but it is extremely important that we get rid of the social attitude that allows men/women to see false accusation as an option. MRAs AND FEMINISTS WORKING TOGETHER IS THE ONLY WAY TO PROGRESS.

Thirdly, feminism writers do not represent feminist views. Activists may, but not all feminists believe the same things just like I'm sure there is disagreement between MRAs too. Feminist writers are in their position because they are controversial and allow idiots to feel empowered.

(I don't know if) Fourthly (is the word), most feminist (and not feminazis masquerading as feminists would absolutely agree that in the event of divorce there should be no bias to women, and that in the event of child custody, the severe bias toward mothers is ridiculous, sexist and must be changed. On the divorce note, don't be silly and get a damn prenuptial agreement, whether you're a guy or a girl. They were made for this purpose.

After all that I'll say that I'm both a feminist and a men's rights activist.

Look, at the very core of my beliefs, men and women are fundamentally different (and biology will back me up there), but that doesn't mean they are not equal. The only way to fight for equality is to do so with the rights of both genders in mind, not just your own. I think that our generation could be the first to achieve true gender equality. Don't just applaud people who stand up for men and women's rights. Join them, or better yet, be the one who starts the march, and our sons and daughters will be equal.

Also I sit with my legs wide open because I have testicles. That is the largest non-issue to ever be raised. Ever.

If you want to know my views on any of the debates currently going on in the world of gender equality, just ask.
