I am (much) more likely to be the CEO of a company, an MP or at the top of any profession you care to name.

Tell that to a miner, a construction worker, whatever. You think they had a better chance than a 9-year old girl backed by her billionaire parents to "start a fashion-line business" before she hits teen?

Privilege had always been a socio-economic class issue and will always be.

Privilege had always been a socio-economic class issue and will always be.

I'm almost certain feminism is only a means to distract society from this fact.

That's like saying you are twice as likely to win the lottery because you have two tickets.

Technically true but utterly meaningless.

If you take any group of people, from slum dwellers in Kolkata to plutocrats on Wall Street, men have it better than women.

Any group of people

Inmates serving time because they lost their job and couldn't pay child support.

Any group of people

Victims of sex abuse and domestic violence seeking support.

Any group of people

Americans who want to vote without signing up to get shot at.

Any group of people

Parents in child custody hearings.

Any group of people

Those accused of sex crimes.

Any

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

If you’re in a privileged position and you start moaning about how hard you have it, you look like a crybaby.

And yet on social media, I see this all the time, largely from groups and individuals who term themselves “Men’s Rights Activists”.

What’s the betting that after identifying MRAs, all the examples he gives are from Return of Kings, PUAs and TERPers?

Witness the misogynistic howls over the latest Ghostbusters film … As one men’s blogger wrote, …

Oh, look a link RoK … who saw that coming?

If you want more of this sort of stuff – and believe me there’s plenty – just go and find any online men’s rights discussion (Reddit's infamous The Red Pill forum is a good place to start). And dive in: the misogyny’s lovely at this time of year.

RoK, TERP … whatever next?

Of course, like all movements with unacceptable fringe members, MRAs tend to fall back on the “no true Scotsman” argument.

Christ.

Fuck it, I give up with all this whit.

They won, I surrender.

You can maybe, if you’re lucky and try hard enough, outwit a genius, but never a confederacy of dunces.

I’m going home to wait for the end.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No True Scotsman requires that Red Pillers call themselves MRA's. That's the minimum standard.

These same feminist morons will scream "No True Feminist" with the actions of the largest feminist organizations in the world but declare people who blatantly state they are not MRA's to be "no true scotsman durr".

Welcome, my fellow MGTOW.

[–]zen_affleck 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do they even know this sub exists? I never see it mentioned among TRP or TIA, as though those are the only "Men's rights" subs (and they're not even that).

[–]JakeDC 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Acknowledging this sub would require them to address actual, intelligent objections to their bullshit. This they are not prepared to do.

[–]zen_affleck 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess I don't know if that's good or bad.

[–]LadySaberCat 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It could be classified as both

[–]orangorilla 22 points23 points24 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Every day, I ask myself, “Am I the real victim here?”

Well, I've never called myself "the real victim" I don't think victimhood is binary.

Just kidding. I never ask myself this question.

Ah, that's how open minded our writer is. Three sentences in, and he's shown that he is unwilling to even grant a moment of thought to uncomfortable questions.

[–]TacticusThrowaway 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

He did that in the title.

[–]orangorilla 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, that might have been speaking from experience at least. I can't really blame people for petty tribal behavior, we indulge in it too.

[–]TacticusThrowaway 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Experience that links a single twitter account (run by an Indian guy) and The Red Pill? That tries to create a link between MRAs and gamergate, or MRAs and the Ghostbusters 2016 backlash?

Notice how he manages to dance around the really big issues the MRM regularly raises, like men being screwed over in court and divorces, along with male rape and abuse victims. The only problem he admits is a problem male suicide, and even there he hastily reframes it to a mental health and economic issue...then blames it on other men. Then he spouts the wage gap nonsense like it's some kind of counter.

It's not experience. It's ideology.

[–]orangorilla 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I said might have been, because the title alone did not rely that information. But three sentences in he showcased his own close mindedness

[–]TacticusThrowaway 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As a general rule, anything that says "These people are wrong, don't ever listen to them" is trying to push something and doesn't want to be contradicted.

[–]orangorilla 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course, it's a bigoted title. I think we both agree to what degree of dill this weed has gone.

Fallacies - fallacies - fallacies.

I am a man. This means I’m likely .......

So here we have the male of the species, who is not Apexual claiming that all males are Apexual and therefore showing he is in fact Zetexual minus minus.

[–]Arby01 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While I am not familiar with the context of the terminology you have used, and suspect sarcasm, I essentially agree.

This particular writer claiming that he is likely to be the CEO of a company or pre-eminent in any endeavor is laughable He isn't even a particularly good writer. He points out that rape is an under prosecuted crime but uses the rate for prosecution of false rape accusations as some sort of proof it doesn't happen. Except that you can point to news paper articles about provably false rape accusations that were never prosecuted because "it would cause women to not report rape".

Yet a few weeks ago

We need to fix our toxic rape laws before the names of more innocent men are trashed

Sounds like a trolling little bitch trying to stir up Reddit for page views. Not sure what more you'd expect from a "Gallerist and club owner".

[–]aesopstortoise 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My guess is that this is a warm up act for the shaming that will follow the Mens' Issues Conference in July.

[–]jubbergun 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I see the author's picture. My brain processes it and comes up with "soulless ginger Danny DeVito minus wit and charm."

[–]ukreview 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

making fun of his appearance is the kind of thing he's talking about. play the ball not the man.

[–]jubbergun 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, of course, we should all emulate the good graces of the man calling people objecting to men's issues in our society whiny, entitled, conspiracy nutjobs.

[–]RobDog101 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I live in a stable, rich, first world democracy and, even within this privileged setting, I have a lot of advantages. I was born into a nice, well-off family. I’m a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. I have no disabilities, mental issues or even major allergies.

But most importantly, in my day-to-day life, I am a man.

(Emphasis mine.) And here, right off the bat, we see the delusion being put forth that maleness—alone—accounts for more "privilege" than living in a "stable, rich, first world democracy", being born into a "nice, well-off family", being a WASP, and lacking mental or physical disabilities: the implication here being that not being a man is worse than any disability in terms of hindring success and being associated with oppression.

...

And we're deluded conspiracy nuts.

How fucking cucked are men today?

Okay though, let's dig into this assertion a little more as though it were worth dignifying with counterarguments. Being a "White, Anglo-Saxon Protestant" is a privileged position—on what basis? What sorts of oppression or discrimination do non-whites face? Why, just compare rates of victimization from police brutality; rates of child-abuse victimization; murder rates; homelessness rates; likelihoods of being charged, of being prosecuted, of being convicted, of being sentenced, for a given crime; average sentences for a given crime, between whites and blacks. Obviously black "people" are at much greater risk across the board!

But wait! If you're a black woman you are doubly disadvantaged, right? How, then, do black women fare better by most (all?) these metrics, than white men?

Oh, we were looking at the picture wrong! We need to look at how being black negatively interacts with the oppression they face as women; obviously it would be wrongthink to look at how being a woman positively interacts with their experience of being an actual minority. And obviously being part of a group that on-average-earns-a-lower-hourly-wage-than-other-groups-due-primarily-to-personal-choices is an overwhelmingly greater hardship than is being much more likely to be murdered, homeless or imprisoned!

Fun how we can just change our definitions and standards for what constitutes privilege and oppression in order to keep the group we want at the center of our focus on so-called social justice. Isn't it?

[–]AloysiusC 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the implication here being that not being a man is worse than any disability in terms of hindring success and being associated with oppression... And we're deluded conspiracy nuts.

That was also what caught my attention. Why would anyone read on after that.

[–]TheDude41 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anti-MRA males are chivalrous chest thumping orangutans trying to impress a gaggle of damseling shithead females.

[–]Rockbottom503 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well - the truth is always in the comments, or in this case the poll - when I clicked it 55% of the vote was positive towards MRAs 😊

[–]Misogyny-not-a-crime -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Misogyny is not a crime. I'm not ashamed to be privelidged. Put the two of them together and it spells :

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT A FEMALE THINKS OF A MAN!

[–]rossraskolnikov[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I am out of the loop here. I thought The Telegraph was right-wing? Is this chivalrous Feminism?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's British right-wing.

Which means white knights damseling all the way to Buckingham Palace.

[–]rossraskolnikov[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a complete political and media consensus in the UK. Scary.

[–]famasfilms 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Telegraph is confused.

On the hand one it prints articles by Martin Daubney who recently printed an article critical of Trudeau, and whose very presence on a radio talk show was enough to upset a "feminist comedian" and get her to quit the show.

On the other it prints articles by Radhika Sanghani, her sole purpose is to write articles about how everything is sexist

[–]rossraskolnikov[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suppose if you were being positive you could classify that as some form of "balance"..

[–]kintu -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Link from an archive.is

Your idiocy just gave him page views.

[–]AloysiusC 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Please use archive links for this kind of crap.

I couldn't make it past the opening salvo cliche "I'm a man therefore privileged because I get paid more etc."

[–]lostapwbm 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you want more of this sort of stuff – and believe me there’s plenty – just go and find any online men’s rights discussion (Reddit's infamous The Red Pill forum is a good place to start).

Why not just go to the subreddit actually entitled r/mensrights, you lame hack?

[–]failbus 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because there's a chance the audience might agree with stuff on the MR front page. Wouldn't want to accidentally increase exposure of the four front page stories that currently showcase disingenuous reporting.
