"Shown on patrol in Iraq."

Without a magazine in her weapon.

[–]csbsju_guyyy 84 points85 points86 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Can't have her accidentally shooting anybody"

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Obviously a posed photo.

[–]lantech 20 points21 points22 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's some fine police work there Lou.

[–]NotDescriptive 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Also, when in a deployed environment, don't they wear subdued flags?

[–]cdc194 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nope. We started wearing colored flags when we switched to ACUs back in 2004.

[–]NotDescriptive 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I was overseas in Kuwait a year ago, and they made everyone wear subdued flags.

Edit: 2 years ago, forgot it was 2016

[–]cdc194 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Were you wearing ACUs? I was in Afghanistan 2012 to 2013 and had old DCUs with the colored flag. Was in kuwait for a week in August at Ali Al Saleem. Man I feel for you with that opressing heat.

[–]NotDescriptive 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, for the entire year. It was definitely hell. I was at Arifjan, and the humidity coming off the coast ways horrendous at times.

But yea, I think that photo was staged, and not in Iraq. Her uniform would be a lot different if she was "on patrol"

(She's not even wearing a combat patch)

[–][deleted] 90 points91 points92 points 10 years ago (98 children) | Copy Link

Equality in action, how long before feminists protest?

[+]Logan117 -58 points-57 points-56 points 10 years ago (97 children) | Copy Link

Though some feminists denounce the act of war itself, most support equal access to combat roles, considering feminism pushed to allow women into the military in the first place. PPD and feminism are not opposites. PPD is about women seeking exceptional treatment, due to their gender. Feminism, to me (and I know not everyone sees it this way), is about equality.

http://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2013/01/the-feminist-objection-to-women-in-combat/272505/

[–]Douggem 60 points61 points62 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

They support equal access to combat roles because it gives women choices. They tend not to support women being forced to register for the draft because women don't get a choice when they get drafted.

Feminism is all about women having all the benefits of being a man without the responsibilities/consequences (men can't register to vote without registering for the draft, for example) while also maintaining the benefits of being a woman.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How about being eligible for government benefits without signing up for the draft. Men who don't register are denied.

[–]johnmal85 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That's horrible if it's true.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Here it is

[–]johnmal85 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, you also lose federal and state loans/grants for student financial aid, closed doors to government jobs, etc. Furthermore, up to a $250,000 fine for this FELONY which carries a 5 year sentence. Even if you aren't prosecuted, you may find that many doors close, probably referring to government positions.

[–]EknobFelix 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I was denied federal student aid because I applied at age 17, before I was able to register for the draft. I was informed it was solely because I hadn't registered.

[–]johnmal85 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's unfair.

[–]EknobFelix 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I thought so too. I wasn't able to go to college in the fall and by the time I was able to apply for student aid again, I was working a blue collar job and didn't want to take my earnings away from my family.

[–]Boovs4life 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep, i couldn't get financial aid in college unless i signed up to the draft

[–]ahh_sabretooth 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't even need to register to vote

Source: never registered to vote, male who Is registered for the draft

[–]ThePedanticCynic 109 points110 points111 points 10 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

There are quite a few reasons to believe feminism is not about equality, including the massive misinformation campaign they head. Feminism used to be about equality, now it's about making men subservient. It's a hate group, pure and simple.

[–]mrheh 36 points37 points38 points 10 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

If you do you research you find feminism was never about equality.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. Feminism used to be about things like allowing women to vote. Which i agree with. I also agree that non-land owning people should be allowed to vote.

The founding fathers had great ideas, but they were wrong about quite a lot.

[–]mrheh 20 points21 points22 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You should look up Edward Bernays, PBS has a great special on him called "The Century of Self". Feminism had nothing to do with empowering women, it was a tool used to sell products like cigarettes and create tax money because half the population wasn't paying taxes ie: stay at home moms.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks! I had no idea. I thought feminism was once a good thing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was a good thing. Just because something may or may not have had altruistic roots doesn't mean the end result isn't worthy.

[+]Logan117 -17 points-16 points-15 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It is and always has been about equality, as it says in the very definition. Anyone who advocates for something other than this, and calls it feminism, is misappropriating the term and is just factually wrong. http://i.imgur.com/wciU7ZP.jpg

[–]mrheh 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You have no idea what you're talking about.

[+]Logan117 -9 points-8 points-7 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So you just make a statement and then assert that anyone who doesn't agree with you doesn't know what they are talking about. No sources. No evidence. No citation. No willingness to question your held premise. That's a real scientific approach ya got there.

[–]mrheh 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I did, in another comment right next to this one. Also, If you need to pull out "I was a Marine" as a protective blanket in a conversation to prove your point I automatically assume you're full of shit and weak.

[–]Logan117 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

My mentioning of having been in the Marines has nothing to do with making me look tough, or give me any kind of credibility on the subject of discussion. My reason for including it in the list of many other life experiences that I am had was to point out that I'm not some 18-year-old college freshman who's never actually been out in the real world.

[–]mrheh 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No you mention it so no one can criticize you, you use it as a shield.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Plenty of Marines are 18 year olds who have never actually been out in the real world. Being in the military doesn't make you an expert on the definition of feminism or how other people should interpret it. Whether it is or isn't about equality isn't the point. The fact is the there no such thing as equality because men and women are different. Different roles to fulfill in society, different biological differences that make us different people. Now one thing I will advocate is human rights for all but that isn't a woman's issue, it's a human issue.

[–]DiscerningDuck 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You think you're here educating people, but most of us are light years ahead of you. Come on, as if people here haven't heard the naive "dictionary definition of feminism" fallacy 10,000 times? It doesn't even deserve to be addressed unless you're on the fence and worth salvaging from that noxious ideology.

[–]Logan117 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, the attitude of most of these responses was how I felt about feminism a few years ago, then I started learning what it actually was and talking to actual feminist, instead of just basing my opinion on what it's opponent said about it.

It's funny that you refer to light years. I literally just watched team four star's nuzlocke play through of leaf green and watched the little kid in Brock's gym use that phrase.

[–]banestyrelsen 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is and always has been about equality, as it says in the very definition. Anyone who advocates for something other than this, and calls it feminism, is misappropriating the term and is just factually wrong. http://i.imgur.com/wciU7ZP.jpg

You don't find out what something is by looking words up in a dictionary. Dictionary definitions reflect common usage, not actuality.

To find out what feminism is you have to look at what its proponents believe and how they behave. You'll find that feminism incorporates much more than simply the belief in and advocacy for equality. You'll find that all forms of feminism are premised on the assumption that women are indeed oppressed or disadvantaged, for starters. That is, all feminists believe in some form of patriarchy; it's not something they feel they need to prove, defend or even properly define. It is taken for granted.

There's already a word for the belief in equality between people, egalitarianism. http://www.dictionary.com/browse/egalitarianism Feminism is clearly more than that.

[+]Logan117 -10 points-9 points-8 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely agree that feminism has its flaws and the misinformation campaign is probably the single biggest problem with it. Just as with other SJW issues, sometimes people lose sight of the fact that truth is more important than their message or goal. Anita Sarkeesian is a perfect example of someone that I absolutely have a problem with because she is just flat out wrong and regards anyone correcting her as harassment. But to categorize all feminists as such would be no more sensual than to say that all Christians are hate filled bigots because of the Westboro Baptist Church.

[–]c4ldy 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

sensual

[–]Logan117 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sensical*

[–]ThePedanticCynic 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The problem is that the radicals of the feminist movement rule it.

You're argument is basically that the KKK isn't a factor in Catholicism while a KKK member is the Pope.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I have no idea how to handle this analogy as the KKK is violently anti-Catholic.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are they? I thought they were violently Catholic. Do you have support for this?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They were originally a Protestant Christian group. Therefore, anti Catholic

[–]Logan117 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I see your point, but I do not think that it is quite that cut and dry. The feminist movement has no one single clear leader like Catholicism. There are high level leaders on both sides of the feminist movement.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No, the problem is that the feminist movement has no clear goal. It's a catch-all movement. No matter what a female believes, needs, or hates; somehow, feminism can solve it. The only clear foundation of feminism is the declaration of their ability to solve your problem, no matter what that problem is.

Every sane person on the planet would call that a cult, and most of us also recognize it as a hate group.

[–]Logan117 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is honestly the first time I've ever heard someone describe feminism as a cure-all. The way you talk about it sounds more like a pitch from a snake oil salesman. The only thing feminism seeks to address is the ills of society caused by discrimination in regards to women. That is why it is a synonym for women's liberation. The men's lib seeks to do the same for discrimination towards men. They both have different but synergistic, not conflicting, goals. Feminism does not claim to help you start your car when your batterie is dead.

As for the claim that feminism is a cult, using the first definition is incompatible, because it necessitates some aspect of religion, which has no bearing on feminism. Using the second definition could only apply to a feminist leader, not the movement as a whole. Indeed, that is a problem. When some people get famous, they develop a fanbase that view them as more than just a person. In the eyes of their fans, they can do no wrong. That is both faulty thinking and dangerous.

The key is to always remember that whether or not something is true is more important than whether or not it's supports your perspective.

[–]ThePedanticCynic 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only thing feminism seeks to address is the ills of society caused by discrimination in regards to women.

This is exactly what i'm talking about. For you it's this, but if you ask most feminists about its goal then they'd answer it's about 'equality'.

This is a first for us both, because you're the first feminist who's actually admit to me that feminism isn't about equality.

That is why it is a synonym for women's liberation.

No, it's not. It was back in the day, but now it's synonymous with misandry. Hmm. Spellcheck actually recognizes the word misandry now. That's new.

As for the claim that feminism is a cult, using the first definition is incompatible, because it necessitates some aspect of religion, which has no bearing on feminism.

No, i think it's a perfect parallel. Feminism has become a god to many feminists. It's a vague notion that they've devoted themselves to. Religions don't need a figurehead, they need an ideal to follow. But fine, they're a non-religious cult that worships an ever changing idea. How's that?

I agree it's dangerous and faulty thinking, which is why i oppose feminism.

The key is to always remember that whether or not something is true is more important than whether or not it's supports your perspective.

I agree, which is why i oppose feminism. I can't think of a single right men have that women don't, but i know of many rights women have that men don't. And yet, somehow, feminism is still restricting the rights of men.

Correction:

Now it's about being able to wear nothing in public except duct tape and not have to accept the consequences that will follow.

"Still not asking for it"

[–]ThePedanticCynic 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Um, no? What the fuck?

Rape is always wrong, i don't care what they're dressed as. They can be nude and it's wrong.

The fuck is wrong with you? They're never 'asking for it'. But yeah, maybe they want you to find them attractive. I go to the beach just so i can take my shirt off because i want women to look at me, but that doesn't mean i want to be raped.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

seems pretty obvious that the guy was not at all, even in the slightest, condoning rape. all he was saying is that women such as the one's who go around naked holding signs that say "still not asking for it" are breaking decency laws (in many states) and wont see consequences. (obviously they have a good point, but laws are laws.) As simple as that. no one is saying rape is ever okay.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Der, fucking sarcasm.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"I was only pretending to be retarded!"

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wow.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah, that guy's a dumbass. clearly misunderstood you... freaked out, then asserted that you're acting retarded.

[–]hivemind_disruptor 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

feminism is about female empowerment not equality.

[+]Logan117 -10 points-9 points-8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's right there in the definition. Again, I understand that there are lots of people out there who hate men and want women treated better than men, and call that feminism. It isn't. That's requesting a pussy pass. http://i.imgur.com/6QpoYbr.jpg

[–]hivemind_disruptor 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

we are not concerned here with the origins of the movement or how it is properly defined. Feminists DONT act as if they want equality, they act as if they want female empowering. if they wanted equality they'd support equality measures for men too and have no problem with MRAs (which is about equality because they support equality measures for women).

feminism WAS about equality, now it is something else.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really don't understand the feminists that actively try to shut down stuff like mens support groups that legitimately try to help guys in need. i guess they believe women have it so much worse, so trying to solve mens problems takes away from solving womens problems?

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

Feminism, to me, is about equality.

Lolz

[–]RedPillFusion 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. If feminism were about equality, I know there's a word for that...it's on the tip of my tongue....

[+]Logan117 -20 points-19 points-18 points 10 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

The reason it's called feminism is because historically, females were the oppressed gender. Now they are pretty close, but there are still some things that could use some change. Not only for women, but the negative stereotypes of men as well. Men's Lib goes hand in hand with feminism.

[–]RedPillFusion 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Hence the complication of calling it "feminism".

Equality. That's the word you're looking for.

[+]Logan117 -10 points-9 points-8 points 10 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is about equality. I fully understand that there are quite a few people who label their brand of man hating and being offended over nothing as feminism, and I would consider that a misrepresentation.

This is what I support: https://youtu.be/gkjW9PZBRfk

Not this: https://youtu.be/u_J0Ng5cUGg

Feminism is a facet of egalitarianism.

[–]morerokk 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I've never seen one of these elusive "real feminists" ever actually do anything for men's issues, or even speak out against the man-hating feminists. So where are these unicorns, then?

[–]Logan117 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Just listen to the Emma Watson video. She discusses men's lib issues. Feminism is even responsible for one of the two branches of the men's liberation movement. http://i.imgur.com/rpc5MDW.jpg

[–]RedPillFusion 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad you brought Emma Watson up. She is the perfect example for the dishonesty that lies at the core of the idea feminism is about equality. Listen to her words. Now go look at her actions. She's a crony for feminism because she hasn't the real world circumstances of those whom she speaks of to empathize with.

Homegirl goes home to an alpha male jock, both of whom white, wealthy, and attractive. If you want to qualify a philosophy by its proponents, you might in the future select someone that:

a)has a trace of credibility behind the philosophy, and

b)doesn't pull a jekyll and Hyde from microphone to mattress.

[–]Logan117 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Me. Right here. I'm a feminist. I'm also a white cis male that thinks Anita Sarkeesian is full of shit and deluded. I also think men's lib issues are very important and should be addressed.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I think you're in the wrong sub.

[–]Logan117 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I think you are right.

[–][deleted] 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]EknobFelix 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, why associated yourself with a facet of egalitarianism that is also associated with man-hating? Why not start calling yourself something different while you take a stand for true equality, so as to distance yourself from the negative connotations of modern feminism?

Is it because other feminists will scoff at you, or deride you if you don't support equality in the same way they do?

[–]mrheh 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Found the college freshmen.

[–]Logan117 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I was a decade ago. Since then I have been in the Marines, deployed to Iraq, been to two different colleges, had many different jobs, been married and divorced, and been to jail. I am no stranger to a diversity of experiences in life, and the viewpoints that I hold are ones that I arrived at after years of experience and contemplation.

But go ahead and make your witty quip like a trash talking middle schooler. Surely that is more mature and noteworthy than actually offering a rebuttal to my proposition.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

how about, in 120 years feminism has never done anything for men?

yeah, you pretty much lose now.

[–]Logan117 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Throughout the majority of humanity's existence, women have overwhelmingly experienced more gender-based discrimination. Now that women have the right to vote and own land, we can address the more intricate discrimination faced by both genders. For women, it's equal pay, and for men, it's equal prison sentencing, just as examples. And before you immediately reply with the reflexive comment that the wage gap is a lie, please watch this video:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=it0EYBBl5LI

The wage gap IS a lie. You're using false statistics. And I'd much rather tend to the home than drown in fucking mud in the Somme.

Here I won't direct you anywhere. I'll show you with sources, that women have the better part of EVERY single statistic. But you'll STILL bitch and cry even without realizing how much better you have it than men. This is without showing the every day perks you get like being able to choose as suitors present themselves to you and other innate advantages that are only available to women.

Women face over 60% less time for the same exact crimes

Women in their 20's without children are out-earning men. http://content.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,2015274,00.html If a man signs on the birth certificate and is cuckolded, he is on the hook for having "signed the contract" despite the obvious fraud. If a woman signs a pre-nup, it is often thrown out because it's "unfair" despite her having signed the contract and the grounds being kept.

If prison is included, as it should be, more men are raped each year than women. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2449454/More-men-raped-US-women-including-prison-sexual-abuse.html

Schools are a hostile environment to boys. Zero tolerance policies, putting them on hard drugs to keep them still, and stifling their natural differences (as opposed to girls) is destroying young boys. However now that boys aren't doing well, we're told it's because girls are smarter. It couldn't be that the system is infinitely more geared towards girls and boys are treated as defective females.

Watch any television show or commercial and a man is depicted as a moron. Violence against men is still a common humorous trope especially when hit by a woman. But a woman being touched or hurt is never shown.

Feminists claim that college females are more likely to be raped. While this makes no sense as if it were truly the rape collusion institution they claimed, college numbers would be plumetting. However this could not be further from the truth. It has been found that the 1 in 4 statistic constantly trumped out in false. The DOJ found that college students were sexually assaulted at a rate of 6 in 1,000 and less likely than the general public. http://thefederalist.com/2014/12/11/new-doj-data-on-sexual-assaults-college-students-are-actually-less-likely-to-be-victimized/

The wage gap is quoted, yet men retire at a later age than women (despite having a shorter life expectancy). It is quoted at 77 cents to the dollar or some such number, but when it's controlled for all factors, it becomes 2-7%. And because men make up almost all of workplace deaths and are physically stronger, it makes more sense. Women also choose more sociable jobs. They also drop out of the job market for a number of years to raise children in most cases.

9 of 10 of the most remunerative college majors are male by a wide majority, many are 80%+. Petroleum Engineering: 87% male Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Sciences and Administration: 48% male Mathematics and Computer Science: 67% male Aerospace Engineering: 88% male Chemical Engineering: 72% male Electrical Engineering: 89% male Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering: 97% male Mechanical Engineering: 90% male Metallurgical Engineering: 83% male Mining and Mineral Engineering: 90% male

9 of 10 of the least remunerative college majors are majority female. Counseling Psychology: 74% female Early Childhood Education: 97% female Theology and Religious Vocations: 34% female Human Services and Community Organization: 81% female Social Work: 88% female Drama and Theater Arts: 60% female Studio Arts: 66% female Communication Disorders Sciences and Services: 94% female Visual and Performing Arts: 77% female Health and Medical Preparatory Programs: 55% female http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/02/01/no-women-don-t-make-less-money-than-men.html

Feminism is incredibly hypocritical in every scenario. For divorce, they often claim men don't get custody because they "don't ask for it". While the reason they don't ask for it, is because they know they wouldn't get it. However if the same logic is applied to say, women in STEM fields, they change things up. Women choose their own fields and seem to prefer not to take part in STEM fields of their own preference. However, in this situation women's own choice is not okay for some reason that's never explained. Men getting treated horribly unfairly in divorce? It's their own fault, they don't ask for custody! Women going into their own majors of their choosing or not asking for raises? Major changes need to be made on women's accord!

Men who treat women as they treat men are seen as sexist. https://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/bitstream/handle/10012/6958/Yeung_Amy.pdf?sequence=1

At least 10% of all fathers have been tricked into paternity. A 1999 study by the American Association of Blood Banks discovered that in 30% of 280,000 blood tests performed to determine paternity, the man tested was not actually the biological father of his children.

Women live longer than men do. This may be attributed to the numerous ways in which men are considered disposable contrasted with how women are always considered indispensable.

If a man and a woman get in a fight, despite the woman hitting a man, the man will go to jail every single time (a la Duluth Model). Police officers are also given extra funding for arresting men for domestic violence and the like, leading to more questionable arrests.

21.45% of couples reported violence. Male-to-female violence was reported in 13.66% of couples, while 18.20% for female-to-male violence. Thus, women are 1.33 times as likely to be violent. (Severe violence only raises this ratio to more than 2x as likely.) http://www.ncfm.org/libraryfiles/Children/DV/family-violence-study-may2006.pdf

Almost 24% of all relationships had some violence, and half (49.7%) of those were reciprocally violent. In nonreciprocally violent relationships, women were the perpetrators in more than 70% of the cases. http://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/abs/10.2105/AJPH.2005.079020

This bibliography examines 286 scholarly investigations: 221 empirical studies and 65 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600. http://web.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm

Girls are 1.38x more physically aggressive in teen violent relationships. http://www.nij.gov/journals/261/pages/teen-dating-violence.aspx

In 2013, parents, acting alone or with another parent, were responsible for 78.9 percent of child abuse or neglect fatalities. More than one-quarter (27.7 percent) were perpetrated by the mother acting alone, 12.4 percent were perpetrated by the father acting alone, and 24.6 percent were perpetrated by the mother and father acting together. https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubPDFs/fatality.pdf

"Women are more likely than men to initiate violence in their relationships and are more likely to be aggressive more frequently”. He addresses the myth that women are only violent in self-defense. “29% of female college students admitted to physically attacking their boyfriends when no threat was perceived.” http://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/abs/10.2105/AJPH.2005.079020

Women have custody 70% of the time in divorce (not to mention the outlandish child support and alimony that bankrupt men) When a man gets a miracle and gets custody, the woman is FAR less likely to have to pay child support.

In a presentation to the American Sociological Association, researchers report that women are more likely than men to ask for divorce. BUT NON-MARITAL BREAKUPS are equally likely to initiate a breakup. I wonder why, it couldn't be the cash prizes women get in divorces. http://data.stanford.edu/hcmst

Women get custody more often, despite fathers been proven to have a more positive impact on the child's life when compared to mothers. http://brandongaille.com/19-compelling-motherless-children-statistics/ https://thefatherlessgeneration.wordpress.com/statistics/ Not only that, but fathers are more likely to keep the child out of poverty, DESPITE being far more likely to be stiffed by the mother on child support. http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2013/07/02/the-rise-of-single-fathers/ http://www.census.gov/people/childsupport/data/files/chldsu11.pdf

Part 2:

Women earn 64% of university degrees.

Men make up almost all of the homeless.

Men get the death penalty at an 83 to 1 rate.

The right to Due Process is being destroyed by feminists as rapists are guilty until proven innocent. In addition there are laws in California in which a rape accusation WITHOUT any other evidence gets you thrown out of university. Some states have even taken action, such as Washington state, to demand the woman prove the encounter was NOT consensual. You know, like innocent until proven guilty, the backbone of our justice system, demands. Yes means yes laws translate into a man proving an encounter was consensual, AKA guilty until proven innocent.

There is no action taken against false rape accusers, three of the most high profile rape cases in recent memory were completely false (Duke, UVA, Mattress girl, Hofstra, Tyler Kost) among countless others.

If both parties are drunk, for some reason the man is imprisoned or charged with rape. Of course women aren't accountable or responsible at all.

Men have no recourse for being cuckolded into raising a child that is not theirs if the woman was fraudulent, pay or go to jail. Once the child reaches 2 in many states, even with a DNA test they are on the hook for "assuming role of the parent" despite the heinous fraud the woman has committed.

Preferential hiring for women in government jobs, quotas in private jobs for government bids that lead to less qualified women getting jobs over men. Not to mention scholarships in all types of math and science. More scholarships for women than for men.

Men have 0 reproductive power, whereas the woman has numerous methods to turn back on the child (Birth control, Emergency contraceptive, Abortion) and yet we are still held 100% financially responsible for something they have zero control over. All the responsibility with absolutely zero say in the matter.

Legalized murder with battered woman sydnrome, which even now stretched to PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE (aka words = LEGALIZED MURDER). There are numerous women-only defenses to excuse them from MURDER.

And in 120 years, what has it done for men?

That's really weird a movement for equality has done nothing for the other gender in over a century, really weird! It's almost like it's not nor has ever been about equality.

[–]Logan117 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Women's liberation (feminism) is a movement to do away with the gender-based oppression experienced by women. A lot of progress has been made, but it's not perfect. Men's liberation is the movement to do the same for men, such as gender discrimination in jail sentences or the awarding of custody of children. The two have different, not conflicting, goals. As a matter of fact, most members of men's lib recognize that these men's issues are the result of the historical patriarchy. Seeing women as only being suited to care for the home and family, not fight or earn a living is why women are seen to be better caretakers and awarded custody more often. The shorter sentencing for a woman for the exact same conviction as a man is the result of them being viewed as the weaker sex throughout most of human history.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a long ass way of saying "it's never done anything for men yet continues to attempt to claim for being equality".

[–]DiscerningDuck 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

you're in here peddling the "dictionary definition" and the "wage gap" fallacies, and you've been a feminist for over a decade? you're a hopeless cuck. If you haven't seen through the lies by now, there's no point in even trying with you. You'll have no luck brainwashing people in this sub though.

[–]Logan117 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The wage gap isn't a fallacy, it's just a lot more complicated than saying that women make 78% of what a man makes. It doesn't take into account differing factors. There's an entire field of study dedicated to the wage gap and what they have deduced is that if you control for all variables, it is about 4-7%. But there lots of other interesting information, such as the fact that Asians have a higher average earning than whites.

As for my background, I grew up in a religious southern baptist household, joined the marines, went to a theological seminary, had a crisis of faith. Spent many years soul searching and job hopping after I lost my job, school, wife and most friends. A few years ago I was mostly libertarian and had pretty much the same views as the responses I have been getting here. Then I sought to educate myself on feminism by learning about it through sources other than its opponents. While it does have plenty of problems, with lots of people giving it a bad name (Anita Sarkeesian), I still think the spirit of what it stands for is right.

I just heard on NPR that the marine/congressman Duncan Hunter who proposed the bill didn't even vote in favor of the bill. He really just brought the bill up in order to raise deeper questions into women's involvement in the military.

Pretty funny how it passed, even some Republicans voted in favor of it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

http://archive.is/OgabP

He knows its going to get people killed. I personally like that he took a stand to point out how ridiculous it is by expanding the scope to include every woman(18-26), daughter, sister in the nation. Only when you do that does it cause an uproar.

[–]BeardedBagels 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Earlier this week, the top officers in the Army and the Marine Corps told members of Congress they believed women should start registering for the Selective Service, given the recent decision to make them eligible for any military job.

But while Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley has spoken positively about women in combat and Marine Corps Commandant Robert B. Neller has committed to implementing the new policy, Hunter and Zinke have been blunt in their criticism of the change.

Hunter, a former Marine, hails from a branch of the service that has struggled most with the decision to make the selection process for combat positions gender neutral.

“It’s going to get people killed,” Hunter said in an interview with Politico last month discussing the policy change. He added that Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who had pushed for the changes, was “a greater threat to the Marine Corps than ISIS.”

After all that, he sounds like an idiot.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Good. They want to be involved in the military that badly, they can sign up at 18 like the rest of us.

[–]ooewr 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They won't. With a few exceptions women in general simply refuse to serve their nation.

[–]bruisedunderpenis 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is such a weird and crazy situation. The bill was proposed with no intentions of it actually passing. It was drafted and presented as merely a good excuse for discussion and debate about women's roles in the military today. Then, unexpectedly it get's passed, and now instead of actually making women sign up for selective service (because heaven forbid a woman has to fill out a form that has a statistically insignificant chance of ever meaning anything), they are back tracking so hard, the talks are now about getting rid of or changing the selective service system all together. So weird.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

thats kind of what i find funny. no talks of getting rid of selective service before, but now that this has a chance of getting put into law, theres a big change of heart. they didnt really give a shit until theres a law trying to make everyone equal. thats not to say i think we need a selective service, but it does raise the question whether they really want equality.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]partty1 -33 points-32 points-31 points 10 years ago* (19 children) | Copy Link

The draft is a joke concept. The US military is so strong nobody would even bother trying, not to mention the economic stupidity of that idea.

edit: Downvotes? I'll take the other side than, lets send 100% of our people to war, nobody to work the factories, nobody to raise our children, make every single person above age 18 fight pointless wars.

[–]Borderline769 34 points35 points36 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Think of the draft as war deterrent. When we went to war in Iraq, there was huge public support for it, because the military makes up less than 1% of the population. Compare that to Vietnam. Public support tends to wither and die when it's your family and friends sent off to die.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I'm of the mind that there should be a mandatory draft in all wars. It's very easy to say you support the troops when you have nothing to lose personally.

[–]HanukkahMonster 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'd rather go to Canada and be a "traitor" than fight for a corrupt government that doesn't give a shit about me. The draft is retarded.

[–]GeneralToaster 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Running away if your country called on you will not make anywhere a better place. I don't agree with every war we have fought, but some are worth fighting. For the record another draft will never happen, and Canada's military has fought in almost every military action we have. Canada will likely just ship you back to the States if you tried avoiding the draft.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points-2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree that our country basically uses people as cannon fodder in unjust wars. I just think people would be a little more hesitant to go to war if they had something to lose personally.

[–]HanukkahMonster 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That would make sense if the citizens voted weather or not to go to war.

If citizens had to vote to go to war, they'd just use more false flag operations to convince us it's necessary. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I just wonder, "If they planned this one, how many have they planned (or executed) that we don't know about?"

I agree that many SJWs are for equality in the draft. However, every time I have been in an argument with such a SJW, and I have asked to see their selective service card, they wind up confessing that they never registered.

I've set myself up to be heavily embarrassed repeatedly, by challenging a 3rd wave feminist to find me any woman nearby who has registered for the draft. None.

[–]LeGummyWorms 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I never said SJWs are for the draft, feminists are. Also, I didnt even know women could get a selective service card... which makes me think that most women dont.

[–]EyeAmmonia 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for challenging me. I looked it up and have been corrected. Whereas I had believed that registration was required for men, but optional for women, registering for the draft is required for men, and impossible for women.

https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Register-Now/Registration-Form

The online form specifically states:

Note: Current law does not permit females to register

If you select 'female' on the online registration form, the webpage redirects to the page which states that women are ineligible.

https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Women-And-Draft

I regret having been repeatedly and woefully wrong on this in the past. Given the contentiousness of the issue, I'm amazed I went so long unchecked.

You really only have to register for it if you intend to vote. Which is how it should be IMO.

It's not mandatory, you just can't legally vote until you do register.

Penalties for Failing to Register

Failing to register or comply with the Military Selective Service Act is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 or a prison term of up to five years, or a combination of both. Also, a person who knowingly counsels, aids, or abets another to fail to comply with the Act is subject to the same penalties.

http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/defenseandsecurity/a/draftreg.htm

Other than the felony committed by not registering. Any man in the US who fails to register becomes ineligible for:

  • Student Financial Aid - including Pell Grants, College Work Study, Guaranteed Student/Plus Loans, and National Direct Student Loans.

  • U.S. Citizenship - if the man first arrived in the U.S. before his 26th birthday.

  • Federal Job Training - The Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) offers programs that can train young men for jobs in auto mechanics and other skills. This program is only open to those men who register with Selective Service.

  • Federal Jobs - men born after December 31, 1959 must be registered to be eligible for jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government and the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition, several states have added additional penalties for those who fail to register.

As an alternative method of encouraging or coercing registration, federal legislators passed laws requiring that to receive financial aid, federal grants and loans, certain government benefits, eligibility for most federal employment, and (if the person is an immigrant) eligibility for citizenship, a young man had to be registered (or had to have been registered, if they are over 26 but were required to register between 18 and 26) with Selective Service. Those who were required to register, but failed to do so before they turn 26, are no longer allowed to register, and thus may be permanently barred from federal jobs and other benefits, unless they can show to the Selective Service that their failure was not knowing and willful. There is a procedure to provide an "information letter" by the SSS for those in these situations, for example recent citizens who entered the US after their 26th birthday.

Most states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and Virgin Islands, have passed laws requiring registration for men 18–25 to be eligible for programs that vary on a per-jurisdiction basis but typically include driver's licenses, state-funded higher education benefits, and state government jobs. Alaska also requires registration to receive an Alaska Permanent Fund dividend. Eight states (Connecticut, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming) as well as Puerto Rico have no such requirements, though Indiana does give men 18–25 the option of registering with Selective Service when obtaining a drivers license or an identification card. The Department of Motor Vehicles of 27 states and 2 territories automatically registers young men 18–25 with the Selective Service as federally required, whenever they apply for driver licenses, learner permits, or non-driver identification cards.

Nowhere did I find a connection between the registration requirement and the right to vote. Between the felony punishment and the myriad additional consequences men face for failure to register, there is a strong legal requirement to register.

I google image searched voter registration cards, did not find what you are speaking of in any state. Where is registering with selective service a requirement to vote?

Thanks for challenging me. I looked it up and have been corrected.

Imagine if everyone would react to discovering their error this way...
