It's not just the media but also: education, political and judicial "systems". Feminists continuously lobby and monitor these systems because they understand the power to control the masses. In addition, we live in a gynocentric society. The masses want to hear how the systems are helping women. The third, and most important reason....the political system over arches all other systems and politicians must cater to the biggest electoral voters - women. As they campaign politicians know this and therefore they make promises to help women - so that they can get the vote.

Partly, because they are "politically correct". Who wouldn't (on the surface) support equality???!!! Or "diversity!" Or "the rights of the oppressed".

Also they use words and phrases like "womanhater", "not inclusive", "not a safe space" and "misogynist" etc, which makes everyone (without knowing the background) go

They leech off of the unknowing. Their words sound smart and intelligent (especially after a masters degree in gender studies), so if you aren't well versed in the subject, it might look reasonable.

Also, they are not afraid to use force to get their way. For example, they have disrupted lectures, they deface posters. SJW crowd has even defended doxxing "if it is for the right purposes" so people who are against them are naturally a bit afraid. Look at HeartMob for example.

Also, it's (near) impossible to criticize the movement, because at every turn you get fallacies, you get NAFALT or just the no true Scotsman. It's impossible to pin anything to the movement. Everyone thinks that they are the true feminist, they know what a real feminist is and thinks.

And ofc, nothing is well defined, so that anything can be anything. A local feminist publication stated, that burning gays in the old days was sexist against women, because women (lesbians) weren't deemed important enough to kill. Or the famous "Women have been the primary victims of war!" Just twist the words, make some subjective interpretation of the facts that fits your narrative and there will be those who believe it. It definitely can distort perception of the situation.

Also, they use the "listen and believe" a lot. Not critically thinking through or analyzing helps push narratives. For example, rape 'survivors' are asked questions about who they were with and what clothes were they wearing - must be victimblaming. So naturally we should never ask questions if an accusation comes forward. That helps to strengthen the narrative. Anita is very well versed in this. Take her recent "individual feminism is bad" talk. She basically orders other feminists to submit to the church of feminism and not make any individual choices.

Also, they have eaten their way into academia. Now they have "proof" and "scientific legitimacy"! In reality, a lot of the research is nonsense and/or sexist from inception, but that doesn't bother them.

Also, there seems to be a bias towards helping women. Gynocentrism or the "Women are Wonderful effect", whatever you call it, it seems to be there. So if they say women are in trouble, the public must react.

Also, it's fun to criticize the top men. The man's curse is that he is more likely to be a CEO, but also more likely to die on the job. Naturally feminists thought

So what they might say isn't technically incorrect, it's just that it is a very narrow view.

The answer is simple: money. Media makes money by catering to the feminist agenda since they're telling women what they want to hear; and women control 80% of the money being spent which advertisers are keen to get their hands on.

Businesses make ads to sell to women, use media designed to target women, insert fearmongering buzzwords to enlarge the audience, and rake in the profits. Anyone who objects is instantly labeled a misogynist and subject to the scrutiny of the sisterhood, where they can easily be alleged to be a violent rapey molester and have their life destroyed through slander.

The state profits from the false allegations epidemic and the businesses profit from the fearmongering and telling women to work harder to "have it all" thereby increasing the available labor pool and keeping everyone's salaries low.

It's big business turning the genders against one another, and everyone has their hand out.

Because of gynocentricism and the fact that most men and women have imprinted on mothers to give women special treatment. Also because women don't want to stand against the sisterhood. Especially when its full of crazy feminist bullies.

Also the people with money support feminism because it drives more women into the workplace which increases competition for jobs and reduces wages which is why the gap between the rich & the poor has grown so much under 3rd wave feminism.

Also the government supports it because it allows them to exploit the gender working harder and paying more tax by bribing the majority of voters (women) with benefits paid for with men's tax money.

I like the term post-egalitarian feminism. The more I watch feminist's ranting the more I think they've become a collage of white-men-caricatures. They are the man who leaves his family for the better model. They are the man who does everything in his power to make sure he stays on top no matter the cost. It's like they're John Wayne/Clint Eastwood/Archie Bunker/Mad Men/Joe McCarthy. They have become the thing they once claimed to hate.

I think the media are missing the trend to be honest. Until not long ago, it was unthinkable to report gender issues in any way that isn't highly gynocentric and even misandrist.

But as you pointed out, that isn't the case anymore today. And I believe a number of publishers would find it surprisingly lucrative to cater to a more nuanced version of events. When one finally does, and it succeeds, the others will follow soon. Feminists can delay that shift but that will only make it all the more forceful when it happens.

Things are definitely looking up in that regard. There's been quite a big change in the last few years. Keep speaking out and the media will have no choice but to follow eventually.

Most of the people who go into media are artistic in temperament. They usually get their tertiary education on the Arts side of the lake and care more about what feels right than what is factual.

Most arts depts (Psyc, Politics, Soc, Wms Std etc) won't hire staff who aren't in the right political class - it becomes and echo chamber. (Science depts actually have diversity in their staff.)

So even the intelligent Arts students only hear one side of the argument. Then they go into media and they believe that's what's true.

Because most people believe the dictionary definition of feminism. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Think about yourself : If somebody told you that some "ism" was all about making the lives of some poor, downtrodden people better then I'm willing to bet that you'd support it. Well, that's what most people think about when they hear what feminists say. It doesn't occur to them that they're being sold a truckload of horseshit. That's also why it's so easy to vilify MRAs. How, after all, could anybody in their right mind be against womens' rights ? It's just assumed that since the dictionary says feminism is simply about giving women equality then anybody who has a problem with it must have a problem with women having equal rights.

Now, remember that the people in charge of the media still think it's 1950. They still think that that time the female CFO was asked to make coffee in 1980 for a board meeting is indicative of how women are treated in every industry across the board 35 years later. It's ingrained. It's indelible. They'll always believe the crap feminism spews out because they think nothing has changed. They still believe sexism is endemic to industry and commerce and the very notion that it could be the other way around is just ridiculous to them.

Because feminism is correct by assumption in their current paradigm, and paradigms like that are hard to change. When it comes to politics a lot of it is pandering and trying to stay on the right side of loud special interests. It's also a divisive strategy that lets them paint the other side as "against women" or "against equality" and so forth. I'm somewhat far left politically when it comes to everything but their handling of feminism.

Divide and conquer. Divide the genders, easier to conquer and stay in power.

Most folks want to protect women, so catering to them gets you the most support.

Nobody wants to be labeled a sexist or racist, so they generally just roll with things hoping people don't single them out and pick on them.

Feminists (and the powers that be) have wiped out all women in history (until they become useful to them), so women have always been oppressed. The conversation is not even a conversation anymore at this point, it's just pointing out that (poor) women used to be "oppressed" (compared to rich men) and therefore they're justified.

Women are also single issue voters, so it's easier to manipulate their votes by connecting with them and offering them some scraps for their votes. It's why Hillary and the Democrats were pushing that "war on women" bullshit.

In fact, if you pay close attention to the US (and probably the rest of the western worlds) politics, you'll notice that the people in charge always create talking points, subjects and focus on absolutely bullshit criteria. Shit like "let's talk about why gays should be able to marry, or why abortion should remain legal", or all kinds of shit instead of focusing on the economy, rising costs of living, underemployment, and the surge in college tuition.

2- journalism is not a very technical field. Women with degrees in feminism are often qualified for little else outside of writing trash, so such people are overrepresented in those professions

Revenue of print media is falling as people no longer buy physical newspapers. Publishers need to get traffic to click through revenue so they give prominence to "click bait" headlines and contentious stories that generate lots of comments.

My opinion is that television and major news media have been catching up with feminism, expanding their ideology to exclude stories that would promote maleness except in the defense of women - a rekindled sort of chivalry that serves feminists but will not allow for males ever to be seen as succeeding or diminishing because of their gender.

The majority of young journalists are women, and the majority of university graduates are women, hence the majority of both contributors and readers of the mainstream middle-class media are either female, or are males who get in there by having views that are aligned with feminism.

What makes you think they are?

The one example I could think of was the treatment of a certain feminist's critique about video games. Long story short she got the usual flak and empty threats from internet trolls and the media focused on that to paint her as an innocent wholesome victim while ignoring her critics that weren't being assholes.

I used to think that was the media being super feminist but the thing was, all the articles from the mainstream media weren't really interested in what she had to say. They were interested in putting up a story about a victimized woman, maybe shit on video games a bit, and nothing else. Hell even Time magazine's snippet on her focused on her harrasment more than anything she's actually done (and could've been written by someone who's never seen her work).

I think most of their feminist stories work out that way. Oh feminists want to paint a sensationalist picture of rape/wages/whatever? Easy viewings right there. The media has been doing this shit for a loooong time. Like how they obsess over school shootings, and how every year they warn parents that houses might give their kids poisoned Halloween candy. Know how many times that's happened? 0 (well one parent poisoned his son and put poisoned candy in his neighbors' kids' halloween bags but didn't pass them out to kids that came to his door).

Put it this way, if feminism can cook up a theory about how the missing malysian airlines flight is related to violence against women CNN would be on that in a nanosecond but only because it lets them talk more about that missing plane (the violence against women angle is just the cherry on top).
