Men are able to create their own worth through their accomplishments. Women's value often seems tied to their looks and their youth which fades quickly. Personally I'd rather be in control of my worth and be able to build it over time than be given it for something people have little control over and that rapidly dissipates with age.

This person missed that women can create their worth through their accomplishments too. In fact, one of the main points of this subreddit is for everyone to be valued equally for his or her accomplishments, not by accident of birth.

Reminds me of how exasperating it is when women go mental at initiatives about how to be safe on nights out or whatever. They go "why isnt the same advice (staying in groups, not getting paralytic drunk) given to men?"... as if they're being so clever!

I always just tell them its because no1 gives a fuck if a man gets attacked! He's just another victim among many. Its the same reason why so many dont give a damn when someone gets falsely accused of rape. It almost doesnt register that this guy is a human being

that's how human nature is. complaining about it is no different from women who complain that men only want hot, young bimbos. well, women want men who have proven that they are confident, useful, and competent. it's not a 'social construct' that we can change through indoctrination and legislation. it's never going to change, so i suggest that you accept it and act accordingly.

its a bit bullshit though, if you are a good looking man, you will notice you get treated very differently than if you were not.

women laugh at your jokes when they are not funny, they think the mundane shit you are embarassed about doing is really "insightful and unique and makes you really interesting" and they basically think most things about you are cool.

the opposite is true too. the uglier you are the more harshly and unforgiving people are.

its the same that guys treat women too, its not a gender thing.

I have had women who invited me out for a lunch at work once, they claimed they could tell i was really cool and nice from just seeing me walk around other departments, i was thinking "bullllshiiiiiit" I could be a monster for all you know, they also listen to your stories more and take a real interest in learning things about you.

I would even argue that really good looking men actually probably have it better than really good looking women, because really good looking men can still be liked and cool amongst other guys, but women tend to be shunned by other women because of "Jealousy" and internal bitchiness.

Question, what do you think MR would be more in favor of on the scale. Men getting acknowledged for who they are like women do or women having to do things in order to earn their acknowledgement?

One of the reasons that I really like being a guy is that we have the expectation to do things. Like we are the "accomplishers" of the world as self-gratifying as that may sound. Plus i'll be honest, i've never really felt neglected as a person. I just figured that i'm just another person like any other so why should I get special attention without doing something.

I feel like this concept is missing from women's self-esteem campaigns. While the OC frames the fight for value as a male a bad thing, we at least can define our own fate with this strategy and generally it isnt dependent on our genetic lottery. With the way society treats women, they tell them they should love themselves but with no reason to actual do it. A lot of the campaigns are basically "You are valuable..... Because facts?"

If we want to improve girl's and women's self-esteem we need to teach them to fight for their value like boys and men are taught.
