Its the same with the Boka Haram situation where there were literally about 600 boys shot and burned alive in schools, which resulted in nothing happening. The next week they kidnapped only 200 girls who were treated well and not burned alive and the worlds media go crazy and all hell breaks out with campaigns to try and raise awareness of how bad girls are treated..... Its ridiculous to anyone who isn't brainwashed.

So the UK has had three girls run off to Syria this week, honestly as far as I'm concerned they are traitors and should be classed as enemy combatants. If they have second thoughts and want to escape, the British government should not waste time helping them but if they make it back to the UK or a British consulate they should be placed under arrest and put on trail for treason.

Gender should not matter in this situation. They are not victims.

I'm much more concerned about getting people to understand that in those infamous Islamic worlds it's not that women are oppressed and men live as kings, it's that men and women both live shitty, oppressed lives (to OUR pov, they might as well enjoy it for all I know). It's so hard to get it into someone's head that if women suffer, men will suffer much worse shit, because disposability.

Well that's always the case when people go to war. That was certainly the case in Afghanistan and Iraq. It usually works out something like this when a mixed group of people commit a crime too; the women are said to have been influenced by the men to do bad. They're the victims of a Svengali-like mind control.

I assume that ISIS says much the same thing about American women in the armed forces.

Yep. A 15 year old girl in my city went to Syria with her friend to join ISIS. Everyone went crazy saying how she was probably manipulated and how she'll be raped and abused. Me? I have no sympathy for her and think she's a fucking idiot and probably a hateful, nasty bitch. Because she's a young girl, nobody will criticise her actions. The hate for extremists is completely forgotten by the media when a young girl joins them.

Because the US/NATO has killed millions of people in the region, for reasons outlined in eg "The Grand Chessboard" by Brzezinski and PNAC; whereas ISIS is just starting out; indeed ISIS was/is a predictable outgrowth of US/Israeli/NATO imperialism. It's not rocket science. If you bomb an entire region, if you destroy hydro-electric damns and water filtration systems, if you create death squads that target dissidents and university professors, you're gonna end up with a mess. Of course that's the entire point ;) Arms manufacturers need conflict, state actors require diminishment of civil liberties, and Israel wants its perceived enemies divided and conquered.

tbh, mens rights and womens rights in this context is not at all discussable. Simply because women have none/little rights as is over there, and all of isis is comprised of men, this is not a social problem this is a religious problem. Even some of the bible has some portraying of what man should be and what a women should be, not as extreme as in the Quran. So regardless if the women or men are joining isis for whatever reason it may be. Women will be treated inhumane because majority of people there accept women as being something lower than that of a man.

I can certainly see where you're coming from, but I think there might be a thing or two worth considering...

You talk about someone 'willfully' joining ISIS... what do you mean by that? Doesn't that imply an informed consent, somewhere along the way?

If a person has been explicitly forbidden from getting a decent education, isn't the proper response 'pity' rather than 'outrage'?

I mean, there're tons of messed up things about Western gender politics (but it seems like they pale in comparison to the way many cultures deal with gender), but my reaction is definitely one of, "Oh, those poor people!". P
