Interestingly, studies corroborated what I was seeing. In a study published last year in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, researchers at the Kinsey Institute found that it's no longer true that men cheat far more often than women do. In fact, they found that women and men cheat at about the same rate -- though, yes, for different reasons. Women tended to cheat because they were unhappy in a relationship or felt their partner didn't hold similar sexual beliefs. For men, the biggest factor was sexual excitement. That is, women are far choosier about why, and with whom, they cheat.

Is this a good thing? It sure is. For these men, marriage is important, but it doesn't define them. If it doesn't last, they won't be destroyed. For a man, the ability to realize that he's not happy -- and he's going to do something about it, rather than be passive and accept whatever comes -- is empowering. He is claiming his right to feel fulfilled in relationships and sex, regardless of what society may expect of him.

I'm a Clinical Psychologist, University Professor, and Clinical Researcher, and I know a thing or two about this topic. This article disgusts me personally, and embarasses me professionally. She stated that she's not advocating infidelity, but clearly that's what the article is: an advocacy of extremely destructive behavior, as long as it is done with forethought, intent, a lack of remorse, and by women. The women's studies departments in so many universities have become an echo chamber of feminist apologetics that have less and less bearing on people's real lives, and are oblivious to the damage they do to both genders. As a Psychologist, please know that this author does not represent what we know about human behavior and relationships - it is a tortured justification of an unjustifiable political position.

A different study, this one conducted by AARP, found that divorce among couples married for a long time is up -- at a time when divorce in general is down. The bigger surprise: Wives are now more likely to initiate the split than husbands. In two out of every three marriages longer than 20 years, it's the woman who leaves the man.

This information seems like old news to me.

Meanwhile, women continue to complain about men who will not commit. The problem isn't that men don't want to commit, the problem is that a lot of women simply do not honor their commitments and society rewards them for breaking their commitments. The wife is encouraged to play but the husband is expected to pay for it all.

In this article she blatantly promotes adultery to women, saying it's "a good thing" and "empowering". This woman is evil, simple as that. She is utterly destructive to families.

She isn't actually advocating infidelity. She's pointing out that now, both men and women engage in infidelity roughly equally. Additionally she says in her article the following:

That's not to say the rise of the adulterous woman signals a victory in the battle between the sexes, and that men have replaced women as the faithful, as it were, underdogs. It's not a contest, and there's no winner. What's 'good' for women needn't be 'bad' for men.

This is a pretty nice and conciliatory message.

However, I think it goes both ways. If women are now wanting to ditch their marital obligations, I think men should do the same and not feel obliged to marry or start a family.

Has anyone seen "Stories We Tell"? It's a film by Sarah Polley exploring how her father, is ... of course, not her father. Her mother, a former actress had an affair with a director. She never attempts to explore that aspect of deception.
