I did my first solo thanksgiving and Christmas last year. A little tough but I got through it. I suspect it will be the same this year. I just summon the old saying, it is what it is.

Do you have kids? I am going on a cruise for a week with my kids the week of Thanksgiving. I have made sure for 10 years that my kids were always with my ex-wife as Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday. This year is mine, my kids are 18 and 17, so last chance to do something fun with them before they are off to college and I asked them what they wanted to do and they said a cruise.

Two thoughts. First, if you have friends, neighbors, etc., could simply ask, what are they doing for Thanksgiving. Or suggest going out for dinner, or making something other than a traditional dinner (make prime rib, lamb rack, ribeye steaks, etc).

Second, I've had a couple of Thanksgivings alone due to travel for work, or the significant other was traveling. It was really great. And it can be great if, like some of us, you dislike mindless chatter with in-laws, or even your own family. Instead, look at it as an entire day and evening to yourself to do whatever you want, without any cares or interruptions. Two days before, a little meal prep. I prepared homemade roast beef for great roast beef sandwiches day of. Another year, made a whole rack of lamb rack and asparagus. Both are very easy. Select all entertainment you wish for the entire day, prepare a great dinner -- it'll be good.

First Thanksgiving, where I was on my own I had a turkey sandwich with potato chips and a glass of cranberry juice. Watched a bunch of football and drank a bunch of beer.

I got separated last year about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Wife finally left after a year of back and forth chaos, saying she didnt "love me anymore", married 11 yrs, together almost 15, 3 Boys.

I spent Thanksgiving dinner with my brother and his family and went to work afterwards.

I took 2 weeks vacation during Christmas and new yrs and had my kids for most of it.

Find something to keep your mind and body busy.

Its hard, but believe me, its not the end of the world, even though it may seem like it is.
