I understand some wives go to drastic lengths in their legal pursuits I'm also worried she will also act out in anger. Has anyone had to deal with this? Like showing up banging on your door? Verbal threats, screaming etc?

I had about 40k in a cash account she would have gotten half of so I invested all of it in my two kids college funds.

So did mine! So I told my children I invested my half of the home we sold and paid another house with money from a hidden account and am also getting separate income. Kinda making it seem like I was hiding something while being careful to not write or have it recorded. She is pissed they cannot uncover it. I just deny it to her and the court, I can tell by her demeanor she is angry and frustrated! I love it!

My exwife tried to do that -- 11 year marriage and she refused to work. She was convinced that I was hiding money from her! Money that she was ENTITLED to.

She argued that once my mother dies, I will get a good inheritance and therefore I can pay her loads of alimony. Yeah, she got $0 alimony.

She tried to get at my safety deposit box that had all of my mother's and (deceased) grandmother's gold jewelry in it. She didn't get at it.

She was convinced that my car was a marital asset and she gets half of the value, but the loan to buy the car was "all on Jim" because she didn't sign off on the loan. I kept my car and my car loan.

She again was convinced that I co-owned my mother's house, and therefore she gets 50% of my 50% stake in her house.

She asked me again and again about secret bank accounts I have, that she's entitled to.

I finally told her, "If you feel that there are assets I'm hiding, by all means, hire a forensic accountant. I won't be paying for it. And as you know, the court won't force me to pay for it."

She never hired that accountant.

Disabuse yourself of this notion. Her lawyer’s job is to zealously advocate for her. Whatever that may mean.

Not exactly the same, but my (latest) EX, after only being married 7 months, thought she was going to get 1/2 of my inheritance. When we got married I owned house, cars property out right. My family own a couple of businesses (brother and I run), land other assets. After just under 6 months of marriage hell, my wife filed for divorce. She kept at her lawyer to go after my inheritance. Several problems here: 1) although Texas is a community property state, inheritances are not part of community property, 2) we were only married 7 months and #3) and most important, My mother is still alive and very healthy, so I don't own any of the businesses, ranch property etc.

My EX was so annoying, her lawyer had to tell her to "stop dropping by every day. That she would only see her by appointment." Then had to limit her appointments to one per week. My lawyer and EX's lawyer just happened to be best friends (small town) so I had great seats for the s@!t show.

Mine is still convinced I own multiple properties around the city I live in. Spoiler: I don't own any property anywhere.

There is someone with the same name as me who owns property in my city, but there is about a 20 difference between us.

Yes, mine did too. Over a two plus year period asked to audit my business 4 times. She just insisted that there had to be more assets and income. An enormous amount was spent by her on accountant fees. This was a situation where there was only a $2K difference in the book value of the business between her accountant and mine. That business had 4 partners so the difference in value for my share was only $500 which means only $250 to her. But don’t confuse her with facts.

Also, found out that after the divorce she was still convinced that there was hidden assets and income and that she hired an investigator to go through my trash when placed out for collection.

I think the total cost of all these efforts exceeded $50K.

She handled all of the finances during the first 12 months of our marriage but she was terrible at it and maxed out the credit cards and ran out of money before the end of each month and never planned for unexpected or infrequent large expenses. She came to me in tears and begged me to take it over which I did. She wanted nothing to do with the money other than spending it.

So years later when she decided to divorce me she had no real experience in handling finances nor what things cost. She had been trusting me for 2 decades by that time. But now she was divorcing me and therefore she thought she could not trust me as to finances. There was a little, probably more than a little, projection there. So she ended up placing trust in her divorce attorney. He knew how to bill and about a third of the marital estate was lost to professional fees with no significant difference in the outcome from what I first offered in the first 3 months.

My Ex tried. It was an egg on her face. I worked hard for many years. I didn't spend a dime on myself during the marriage. Now I feel happy for my hard work.

If you think she alone will be paying for that forensic accounting exercise, think again. My ex spent two years hunting for money that did not exist. Repeated discovery requests in court, hundreds of thousands of dollars in lawyer fees.

Whatever you have budgeted for your legal expenses, I would triple it.

Eventually I changed lawyers and we got the court to appoint a “discovery master” - because after providing her over 3,000 pages of discovery her lawyer falsely claimed we weren’t responding to discovery requests. A discovery master is a lawyer appointed by the court, but paid for by both sides, to review discovery.

Wouldn’t you know it? After that her lawyer quit and her new lawyer settled the case in a matter of weeks.

Tl;dr there was no hidden pot of gold but it cost a lot of money for the court to arrive at that conclusion
