I'm not talking about TROs here, I'm talking about Temporary Orders for support and alimony, custody, co-parenting time, possession of the residence, budgets, etc. These are orders that get entered typically early on in the case and often form the basis of settlement agreement terms or court judgments.

You typically can't avoid temporary orders but these are by and far orders entered by agreement and drafted by your STBX's counsel. Your lawyer will ask you to read them and agree to them. The problem is that these happen when we're deep in the "fog of war" or denial or shock. They often contain nasty terms such as budgets for travel and food you will be restricted to, wild amounts of support, payment of bills and expenses over and above support, and other limitations on spending and behavior, typically against the bread-winner.

When and if these come up, don't accept your lawyers instruction to read them and comment. Have a meeting with your lawyer for each term to be explained to you and push back on restrictions.

Violating these orders is a great source of contempt motions, and thus, wasted legal fees.

Be careful here.
