Still at the very early stages of separation here - but I’m already intellectually aware of the fact that my STBX and I are mutually unhappy and need to part ways. This has been known to me for a long time already.

And yet, after 13+ years, there is so much life we’ve lived together. Although especially in recent years the tense, unhappy, or neutral times VASTLY outnumber the good ones, my stupid brain won’t let me stop thinking about the good long-ago times. It’s annoying AF, and it’s making me so damn sad/nostalgic/ etc. at random times.

My intellectual brain tells me those times haven’t existed in years, they can never come back, and that I will ultimately be a happier person without this boulder of a woman in my life. But I’ll be damned if I can’t disconnect that logical thinking from this stupid nostalgic sappy self.

Guys - any tips on how to get my logical self to communicate better with my emotional self?
