After a rocky 8 months and 4 months since my wife of 7 years first telling me she wants a divorce; she told me last night it’s over. Today she went and picked up papers. I’ve fought hard to prevent this and I’m still not wanting this, but she’s dead set on it. She’s a stay at home mom and hasn’t worked since the oldest was born. She’s already asked me to move out and I refused. Now she is saying she’ll move out IF I cash out my retirement account so she can afford to.

She first said she didn’t want to get lawyers involved but I’m worried she’s lying. I’ve already reached out for a consult with an attorney that a friend highly recommended, and I’m considering consulting with others. But I’m unsure what to even ask.

My priorities are making sure the kids are well taken care of and I’m not losing everything. I worry about her ability to take care of them on her own considering how much I need to do around the house despite her being home all day.

What steps should I be taking, and when I’m speaking to attorneys what should I be looking for?
