If you have kids then it's usually to keep the connection to them as their mother. When I got divorced my ex said she was going back to her maiden name. Never did and I wanted her to because I hate the association with her.

The most honest answer I got was that it was just easier to keep the name. I think the length of marriage may contribute to it as well

Mine never took my name - and we arent much into social media so it never mattered. Many dont and change it back or just put their middle name (which is probably a good idea to make your social media harder to find anyway.)

But it depends on a lot. Professional/personal relationships. And self image. Maybe they like the last name. Maybe they just dont want to spend the minimal effort to change it. Maybe they dont want to broadcast to people who dont know them well that they are recently divorced. Maybe by not broadcasting that they stave off creepy/weird DMs. Maybe they stave off judgement from distant family members.

There's a billion possible reasons. Idk what your situation is, but if you're still talking you could always ask her why.

My first ex, now after her second divorce told me because it's a real pain in the ass to revert it back. Changing it to the married name just needs a copy of the marriage license. Reverting requires it be part of the divorce agreement in some states. Others require a separate court order like any name change.

38f my kids last name my 1st ex i made my middle name gave up my maiden and my second husband my last name... He didnt care ... I wanted to somehow keep the same name of my children

Because it is her name now and your thoughts on what she does don't matter anymore. Why should she change a name she's used to because someone she'll hopefully never see again might have his panties in a wad about it?

If she changed her name after getting married, then that’s now her name. It may be spelled the same as yours, but it’s also her’s.

People get to choose their own name. It is immaterial which particular set of names ex uses for herself, nor do I care if one of those names happens to match one of mine.

I share one of my two names with many people I do not like, and millions that I don’t even know. There are some people that share both of my names!

I don’t see how it affects me in any way.

It's just more process and hassle. Depends on how strongly they feel about it.
