My stbx, as many, out the blue says she wants a divorce. I’ve tried working on things, but she’s pretty set in stone. We’re still under the same roof (w 3 kids under 10), until end of June. Collectively we do ok to afford life, but just don’t know how to do this on my own, properly with 3 kids half the time.

Right now we live in a 4 Bedroom 2400 sq ft, 2.5 bath, and pool. Reasonable rent considering options that currently exist.

What I can afford comfortably, and not compromise too much with the kids, is more in the 2 Bedroom, 1.5 bath apartment style. 900-1000 sq ft. Huge difference especially as my kids are getting older, and currently have their own rooms.

I don’t plan to survive on this income for ever, as my job is newer and needs about 2 years to build a solid pipeline and make “enough” money. My wife told me to take this job “where in this forever” then 6 months later wants a divorce. So I’m just not financially in a comfortable spot, and I’m worried how much it will affect the kids.

Will my kids resent me for jamming them into an apartment for a year?

She’s basically doing the same thing.
