TLDR I guess I feel I am wasting my potential despite the fact that I am actively working towards goals and doing the right things. Insecure about my looks, fear aging.
My entire life, I was brought up with the idea that women are doomed to be fat after kids or once they're older in general, and all people are destined to be fat and unhealthy as old people in general.
"Don't eat too much, it will catch up with you when you're older." "Oh, you can eat that much now but some day you will pay for it." These are things I was told as a skinny, tall child.
I was very strong and fit at one point about 4 years ago, with a muscular instagram fitfluencer type bum. I lost those muscles when I was severely depressed for a couple years, and now I am getting them back. I gained weight within the past year or so, but I have literally never been overweight, just skinny fat. I lost all the extra pounds this summer in quarantine, and my work is showing now that I have build the intense muscle again.
I am honestly overall stronger than I used to be, I have a cool mind muscle connection as a gym newbie that I didn't have the first time, but I don't look as good. My waist is not as tiny, I don't have a big strong butt.
I'm also just about one inconsistent year into returning to fitness, compared to more than 2 years of consistent lifting which I did in the past to look that way. So I know there is time and I will get back there.
I am feeling sad that I lost those gains. I look at fitness girls and I feel so lame. I could look fucking amazing right now. I feel pissed that 18 year Olds look like sculpted, strong Greek goddesses, and I'm once again trying to sweat off a dumpy ass and the last of my love handles. How will I ever compete with those girls?
I'm disappointed at how much my mental health has held me back and disadvantaged me so far in life. I'm not trying to have a pity party. I am leveling up all over my life, yet I still have nothing true to show for it. Not yet finished with a degree. All the mental work I did to get over issues which plagued me, but this does not have any visible effect in my life. I feel like I have been in the negative and am reaching zero finally.
This is all manifesting as: I'm feeling like, I'm crappy because I should at least be as hot as possible since I'm as young as I'll ever be, but I'm squandering my youth and looks by being average, or maybe slightly above average because I do go to the gym every day.
I compare myself so much, I am so jealous. I try not to let people see that.
I know someone else here must have felt these sorts of ways at some point.
Can anyone offer me a mindset to replace the crap attitude and beliefs that I have been holding on to?
