So I have been a lurker here for almost a year & i'm in love with everything about FDS! Seeing women come together and support women to break free from abusive relationships, encourage them to develop a healthy well rounded life, to exposing the lies we have been fed as women about love/men is honestly..so beautiful. This group really is the "divine feminine" collectively waking up, and I just love love LOVE to see it.
But I need your advice ladies, desperately. I'm programmed heavily, I mean HEAVILY as a pickmeisha. My conscious mind knows men ain't shit, that self love/living a life that is in alignment with my values/having strong sisterhood will bring be true sustainable happiness, and all that good jazz. But my very wounded, subconscious mind is not on board. To give you some background, I did not grow up with a father present. He was not a bad man or anything, but my parents did not get along. He could've made much more effort to be there for me growing up, and while he was nice he was emotionally unavailable/distant. It wasn't until my teens and now early 20's that we have a much much closer relationship. He still isn't what I would call a HVM or a super loving dad, but he's overall a good person and loves me. I just feel he wasn't meant to be a father. My mother who raised me, while she meant well and we had our good times, was emotionally abusive/manipulative along with my narc grandma.
I grew up as a rather beautiful girl, and have been getting male attention since forever. I was always known as the pretty blonde with big boobs, and guys started to sexualize me starting at age 12/13. Therefore I clung heavily to this identity, as this was the first time I felt consistently loved and "seen". Sadly no men actually wanted a relationship with me, at least the ones I wanted didn't. I wasn't popular or rich enough to be seen as girlfriend material at my toxic high school. So this made me even more desperate to prove myself as good enough to men. I never got asked to prom, but would get all kinds of dms. It was weird because I was pretty innocent and tame in terms of outward behavior, yet I was put in the hookup category automatically. That fucked with my head as I would get so much attention but yet didn't at the same time. I felt seen but to a degrading, passive sexualized extent. I'm now 22 and repeating the same damn patterns. Everywhere I go, my college campus, the grocery store, concerts, gas stations, EVERYWHERE I'm always hoping a man or men see me as this attractive, sexy, sort of dream girl. I find myself literally being such a chameleon with men, changing my voice, body language, saying things to say to impress them so they can see me a certain way, all for their validation. Playing music in the car and hoping they think I'm cool, to posting things on my story for the chance I guy I think is hot will see it and go 'oMg!!! sHeS peRfeCT". Dancing at the clubs in sexy dresses etc and viewing myself from a third person male perspective. All my daydreams have been around men drooling over me or fawning over me and falling in love with me, while I might not even feel that way back. I've had sex just to feel, validated. And have tried to use sex to get men to see me as girlfriend material or so amazing in bed they will actually commit to me, lol luckily FDS woke me up from that pickmeisha solution and I've been celibate for 4 months now, deleted my dating apps, and social media (so some progress!).
Something feels so intoxicating and addicting about male attention, and I hate it. I'm so, so so sick of men being the center of my life, my mind, my spirit. I feel I have stunted my potential heavily because I'm always waiting for the next male validation breadcrumb, as opposed to focusing on who I actually am as a person and getting to know what my passions are. It makes me so sad and honestly I feel so deeply ashamed of this addiction...): I feel like I'm a bad person or so self absorbed for wanting so much attention. I worry I'm some crazy narcissist at times but I would never ever hurt others/feel deep empathy. I wish I could just turn off this part of my brain. I know that getting therapy is the core solution which I am looking for one right now to heal. But I just wanted to see if any of you amazing ladies have any advice.
