I started to foster dogs at a nearby shelter and volunteering for them. Helps a lot. It’s a new social circle and your helping cute dogs 😫 you can’t go wrong

Personally I found the only way is through. Eventually you get used to it. Then, you enjoy it. Time was the only thing that truly helped me.

Other ways help mask loneliness, but I personally believe it only takes longer for the inevitable – being alone, which is actually pure bliss.

Don't attempt to make any male friends. You don't need them. Join groups for women and women only. It's harder right now with Covid, I'm struggling with it too. But there are women only groups for all kinds of things. I belong to a women's only hiking group and outdoor recreational group I found on facebook in my city. REI does women only vacations and camping trips. Most cities have women's groups and some are still meeting on zoom right now.

I really think social skills just take practice. The more things you go to and more people you meet, the better you'll get at it. I'm in sales and I gotta tell you, most people are shy and socially awkward at least to some extent. So many people feel like they have terrible social skills and they're just normal. The people with actual terrible social skills think they're great at it. LOL

Right now if you're lonely I'd say reach out to women's groups in your community you can find active online. Do their virtual meetings and get to know some of them. Then when things open up where you are you can go to some of their events and you'll already know people. Just look for any activities or topics you're interested in.

Change your perception of "loneliness" and stop viewing it as something bad, because there's nothing worse than being in a shitty relationship, and chances are your need to have someone will lead you right to that. THIS is why so many women end up with assholes and its also why a lot of them are afraid to leave these relationships. They don't want to be alone.

Maybe you should ask yourself WHY you feel so alone. What do you feel is missing from your life?

Right now I am taking language classes on Zoom. We are ALL so awkward because we’re trying to talk in a different language and it’s great. Feels good to be “forced” to talk with people and both laugh because you don’t even know what you’re saying. I can’t wait until this pandemic is done and I can take more classes — I find that’s one of the best ways to make friends because you all have to suffer through some kind of challenge together.

A night alone can be as exciting as a date. Get ready, beautify yourself you don’t have to wear inappropriate clothes that you would wear to a club but wear comfortable beautiful well fitted clothes. Wear those clothes for yourself. Put on just a little bit of make up to make you look dropdead gorgeous.

Choose your Best most favorite music and play it. Dance like no one‘s watching because… No one‘s watching.

Go for a run walks in nature wearing good clothes and new shoes and take deep breath‘s. Relax your shoulders and appreciate what your body can do.

If none of these things resonate there are a list of wonderfully exciting fun things that bring joy. Every day is important.

Try things like researching recipes, cooking food you really want to eat, baking beautiful things, watching horror movies, foreign films, jigsaw puzzles, yoga at home, cleaning and organizing, private fashion shows in organizing your closet, Home facials, bubble baths, pedicures at home, fancy cocktails with beautiful ice cubes, dry brushing your body before a shower, podcasts, Learning about plants, organizing your space so it’s so gorgeous and cozy and beautiful. So many things. Love the skin you’re in and smile because this is life and it’s beautiful.

I don't really have any book recommendation, but what helped me was to get involved into ballet and dance in general :) with YouTube and all is easy to learn just about everything if you have the time. Dance gives you confidence and ballet really sculpted my body and taught me to be patient and more elegant.

A pet would also help you alot if you have the time/energy for them!

Always remember that you haven't done anything wrong, start slow, hang out with your friend houses for starters and ask them to invite a friend of theirs and you'll slowly build a circle of friends to be with.

I am 19 years married to a man. I am trapped for the time being, in a life that seems hopeless. It is palpably lonely.

I will tell you this: Build yourself. Seek out hobbies, education, and opportunities that make you feel amazing and invincible. Build and grow to the point you have no need for any external validation. Do amazing things and developed your self-esteem to a point where there is no company better than your own.

Because even if you do end up with a family, it does not quell loneliness. Children are inherently selfish by nature of being emotionally immature. Most men are inherently selfish by nature of being men. The only thing truly keeping you company will be the endless chores thrust upon you and yourself. So make yourself the awesomest friend ever. Because she is really all you got. Nurture her. The end.

stay busy! Got something to do? Do it. Task Manage. When you finish one thing, move onto the next. And focus on it

Do things you want to do, find more hobbies, find some interesting subject to learn, enjoy your own company, you are never lonely because you are born individual and you need to accept that and start dating yourself. Treat yourself as you want to be treated. Feeling “Lonely” and the needs to have company indicates that you still need external distraction and it’s unhealthy. Practice self love and you’ll never feel that way again

i'm in a similar position to you, i'm also awkward and shy and need to make new friends but struggle with it... i'm not going to regurgitate the same points others have made here but i noticed you mentioned 'how to win friends and influence people', honestly i hate that book too. don't know about turning you into a doormat but i think it was more appropriate for the 1930s workplace rather than making friends, now it's very dated and encourages fakery. i don't understand why so many people recommend it

Seconding the comment about Dale Carnegie's book. Maybe his advice is more applicable when men try to win over other men .. (even that is doubtful) or as a sales tactic. But yeah.. When I read this book at a formative age, the message was, suppress your personality and opinions in favor of talking about the other person's interests. Sit through hours of people mansplaining you stuff (stuff you either don't care about or that you already know!) This is no way to start a genuine friendship.
