I (24F) am on the fence about whether I want to get married, mostly because I want to learn more about it before I make a decision on whether to seek it.

It appeals to me because it seems that it would help filter out men who just want sex, emotional labor, and other things that aren't a committed, long-term relationship. While I (a virgin) crave sex/intercourse, after doing some introspection I've come to understand that it isn't in my nature to have such intimate contact with someone and have nothing come of it - no relationship, no emotional bond, just a hit it and quit it. It's weird because as much as I do want to have sex, I'm actively choosing not to have casual sex - the reason being that I need it to be, basically, a component of a committed relationship. I've repeatedly asked myself if it would be worth it to fulfill my sexual desires even while no relationship is manifest, and the answer is always no. It would be too much of an emotional investment on my part. It would be a waste of that investment. I couldn't even do a FWB because it would break me to be split from someone I like after such intimacy.

I'm deliberating delaying it until marriage and doing things like kissing, making out, dry humping, and/or maybe sex using our hands until then (if I want to do those things and feel comfortable). There's something about PIV intercourse that's just too intimate and vulnerable for me to engage in with some guy who's gonna run later. I really want to avoid just being used for sex. I feel like if a man has to literally marry me, it will effectively ensure men who just want me for sex are weeded out of my life. And of course, it's not just sex men can use women for - emotional labor, mothering, and the like are also included. So I also intend to not do a whole lot of emotional labor without any commitment, either.

I don't want to be a "for now" girlfriend - I actually don't think I can go for being someone's "girlfriend" because that would mean me giving them my all with no semblance of a guarantee of commitment. It seems pointless to me; if a guy really likes me and has gotten to know me I expect him to want to marry me.

In a nutshell, my reasoning is that no man who just wants me as a "for now" girlfriend while he prepares to woo his dream girl would marry me just for sex, emotional availability, ego-boosting, and/or boredom.

Side note: interestingly, for me, even though I'm childfree there still seems to be this phenomenon of needing serious commitment before giving too much of myself. As I am sterilized, the reasoning isn't "I could get pregnant." However, for me emotions and relationships are a big deal and aren't something I can mess around with and be mentally healthy. Being abandoned after getting emotionally attached isn't the same thing as being abandoned with a huge pregnant belly or an infant, but it would be miserable nonetheless.
