I have trouble drawing this line. I am FAR from perfect and still do/say things that I know are wrong/beneath me. But I try. I have friends who engage in LV behavior and I do think many don’t add value to my life any more despite having a good history. But I question if I’m being a hypocrite to drop them because they’re not “leveling up” in the way I desire to. They all have great careers, are kind, etc but some are subtle haters, judge my choice to isolate from nonsense (I refuse to be pushing 40 and drink in my free time), and others are just stuck in a rut forever. The friends I mostly am distancing myself from are the ones that don’t understand my quest for individualism..a lot of Them are almost 40 but still live a lifestyle no different than they did 10-20 years ago. I simply don’t care about going to trendy bars or what meaningless thing Joe, Jane etc did on their weekend. I am focused on my spiritual growth, health and doing good in the world. Yet it seems to conflict with judging these people harshly.

How do you ladies balance self-development while being non-judgmental to others who aren’t where you are?

ETA: this is about friends, not dates. Thank you all for answers. Its hard to articulate where I am struggling with this but I guess it’s this: I don’t need my friends to share my interests but it’s friends that don’t value my choices or make comments that don’t consider where I am.

For example, bars/parties depress me and feel like they’re a waste of time bc I don’t drink and I hate the small talk. So I stopped going to these things and spend my free time working out, hiking, reading, volunteering etc. I am happier being alone even tho it gets lonely. But my friend last week texted me when he was drunk from a trendy bar and said I should really look into exploring “outside of my neighborhood.” It’s these digs for not being a social butterfly that bothers me. Esp when I find NO value in things this friend does and he often struggles with depression that I have helped him with. Its common among my group to make digs at my “anti social” life choices.

Another example, I went from pretty much a skinny couch potato to becoming very heathy/fit (work out a lot + eat super clean) some years ago. My supposed best friend wouldn’t acknowledge it for a while (I had a complete transformation). But then one day she made a comment questioning if I think this lifestyle is really a “natural life path” for me because I was not fit when I met her. And she later raved to me about another friends fitness progress lol but has never given me props. I do not need admiration but I don’t want hate.

I guess I don’t feel supported in MY choices.
