I’ve read about Lady Mary before, and many speculate that she rejected this guy - subsequently, he want on a campaign to condemn her and attempted to drag her through the mud by calling her “sapphic” and discussing her in his writings. Men have gotten NO better at taking rejection since the 18th century.
