Thank you for posting this. I have never seen anything addressing this before. I lived this. A list of my "unreasonable demands" because I am just an unreasonable b=word:

10 minutes of conversation daily
10 minutes of time with your son
10 minutes of helping pick up/tidy the house

He decided it was the most unreasonable thing he had ever heard. I decided life was much simpler, easier, and happier without his lazy, selfish azz dragging me down.

P.S. Oh this was after years of begging for some change, and I finally laid the law down. Don't be me. If it's not there from the start, it never will be. Never.

The sad part is, I find it hard to believe a relationship where this isn't the case. I think I've lost all hope in healthy relationships.

What to say instead: “While I value your contribution to this family financially, I married a man and not an ATM machine. When we chose to have children together we both accepted new roles in our lives that add on to our responsibilities and while these new demands are challenging I still expect you to put forth effort. I value you, and that is exactly why I know you can do better.”

Literal years wasted feeling 'clingy', 'demanding', 'too emotional'. Second guessing my own standards. Getting to the point of extreme anxiety and lashing out at him because I was so frustrated of never being validated in a conversation about the problems and no forward motion in the relationship with the ground shifting under me-- and then of course he could use that reaction against me. Being made to feel like a monster because I was suffering. Never, ever again.

Wow, this is exactly what my passive, spineless ex did to me. Pure manipulation, playing the victim, and guilt tripping! And you know what? I was about to do a story time and unload all about him, but he was a worthless LVM and I just don't even care anymore!

I'm SO happy things didn't work out, I've moved to greener pastures 😎✌️
