This! It sounds ridiculous, but I have become even more entrenched in FDS values since I got pet birds. The male always courts the female to a huge degree before she will even consider mating with him! He feeds her, grooms her, and protects her for months without getting any sex in return. Also, he has to help her secure a nesting site, and protect that site, before she will have sex! Can you imagine if birds could talk, and he said, “you gold digger! Go find your own food, and then we’ll have sex today! Or I’m leaving because you’re frigid and sex negative!” It’s laughable. Nature is not at all like our current ridiculous society.

I love when men argue that biologically humans aren't meant to be monogamous because "lOoK aT nAtUrE!" Yet many species mate for life and majority species, the males have to work very hard at courting the female and have to physically be appealing for the female while females are less flashy looking. Humans have it all backwards.

I was speaking about this to a friend recently. How messed up is it that animals have higher standards than humans?

Male animals have to prove themselves to female animals as a worthy mate. Yet with humans it’s an absolute shitshow.

I’m an avid birdwatcher and photographer, and I derive endless inspiration from female birds.

They know they have the power. They know it’s the male’s responsibility to prove they’re the best choice for reproduction; they do this by extensive grooming, displays of health, elaborately choreographed mating dances, gifts, and for monogamous species consistently being a doting father and providing for offspring season by season.

The females are often also larger, and absolutely none of them give af about males’ supposed “right” to mate.
