I could be walking around buck naked and that still isn't an invitation for a man to touch me in any way. Why do men think human rights just stop applying if you're wearing less clothes?
[–]Rebirthed_QueenFDS Apprentice64 points65 points66 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. The fact that my skin is showing doesn’t mean you have ownership. Yet men feel so entitled to women’s bodies that they rape us when clothed head to toe.

Because any excuse to treat women like shit will do
[–]yggiwtmiihFDS Newbie90 points91 points92 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A naked man would never be "asking for" rape, he's just a man who is naked. They understand you can't just fucking invade a person's body because you find them attractive, but women aren't people to these kinds of men.

I went to Kuwait, during Ramadan, and got hit on by a guy while wearing my abaya. He followed me until I got into a cab. I gave up thinking modesty keeps you safe after that fiasco.

Modest or not, a rapist doesn't care. Women have been getting raped by men for centuries, even when they've been fully clothed with layers of fabric. People are just using clothes as an excuse to shift the blame from the rapist to the victim. It's ridiculous. 🙄

A woman will never get sexually assaulted until a rapist is present

Women in the Middle East wearing full niqabs are raped. It has NOTHING to do with what we’re wearing.

I dream of a world where I can look cute for myself, without having to deal with the disrespectful attention. I don’t care if a person of any gender looks at me for a few seconds, but I hate leering and comments.
Meanwhile, random men still try to talk to me while I am wearing a mask.😔

That is something I appreciated about various places in the Middle East. Being in Dubai and having women and children only safe spaces like rail carts and meetup spaces. It made a huge difference to not being leered at or groped. I wish they’d bring this to the states.

I kinda wish for this too, but it feels like admitting defeat. Like, we'll never be able to convince enough men to just act like normal fucking human beings, so the only answer is segregation.

sorry for the related venting, but when i met one of my boyfriend’s friends for the first time he kept staring straight into my eyes then right at my cleavage and then briefly back to my partner before going back to my cleavage WHILE HE WAS TALKING.
one of the most uncomfortable experiences i’ve ever felt

It’s okay dear, we are all hear to help, listen and support one another. I’m so sorry you had to go through that, hope you’re well.

Rape was a thing during the Victorian era.

Rape is old as time actually.

I was a fat little 12 year old and an old man still had the audacity to stare at my ass when I bent over because there was a gap between my jeans and t shirt. And my father had the audacity to tell ME off for it. Like why the fuck aren't you punching the pervert creeping on your child in the face?!
[–]shortywannarockFDS Newbie1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because he might have faced consequences for that :/

I was 14 and at the grocery store with my dad in jeans and a tee. My shirt said "I tried being good, but I got bored". It wasn't until an older (70+) man hobbled past me telling me that I must be such a naughty girl that I realised it could be taken other ways than as an angsty teen rebelling. Creeps gonna creep no matter what.

OMFG, I had a pretty similar experience too! I was with my mom walking to the grocery store when an older creep started catcalling us. My mom looks younger than she really is(she’s 43 but looks like she’s 20) and I looked older than I actually was (I was 13 at the time, looked about 16). Anyway we ignored him and continued walking. At one point I noticed he and his friend were following us. We got into an alleyway when he grabbed my mom and tried pinning her to a wall. She always carries a taser so she managed to tase him away. We went to the cops but they couldn’t find them. Camera footage was pretty shitty back then in my country and the van they got into had no license plate. Obviously up to no good. I’m 16 and still have nightmares about it. I hope they get hit by a truck tbh...

”What was she wearing?” is the stupidest argument ever. Somehow naked women in nudist saunas or beaches don't just all get raped constantly. How would you explain that? Rape only happens because of rapists, everything else doesn't matter, because if he had any self control, this wouldn't have happened. End of story.

unrelated, but the woman in the picture is GORGEOUS
[–]FewButterscotch6FDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. She kinda looks like a young Beyonce.

YUP. My oldest brother has a habit of commenting on outfits that are imo totally normal ("that dress is pretty short" when it's knee-length, or "ugh, gross, are you posting thirst traps now?" when I was wearing a band's tank top to a show once that I guess showed a little clevage, etc.) and it made me feel so uncomfortable that I stopped wearing said outfits for a while and deleted any photos of me in them from social media to be "safe". 🙄
In his case, I think it's less that he's being an outright creep towards me and more that he infantalises me because I'm the youngest by 10+ years. I think he sees it as him ~protecting me~ from being objectified by less than stellar guys (many of which he CHOOSES to be friends with), but it's still fucked up. Maybe if guys like him put mote effort into policing their creepy friends instead of shaming their little sisters for what we wear, we wouldn't need "protecting" in the first place!
