This is what I don’t understand- he finally tells her the truth, that he never wanted to get engaged and only said he would propose so that he could keep getting access to this woman without her expecting anything from him, and then he turns around and makes that same promise again and she thinks it’s genuine this time? I’m glad this woman is in therapy and I hope she realizes she needs to leave this man who clearly doesn’t care about her or share her goals.

Case in point with OP: She is with a guy who would rather spend money on a boat instead of an engagement ring. He makes fake promises for getting engaged, then when she gets upset because "it hasn't happened", he verbally abuses her.

I don't understand why couples discuss getting engaged, agree to it and then... Not? This woman waited around for a year for her boyfriend to ask her to marry him, when they had already agreed to it. Why do we give men this kind of power? When we discussed getting engaged and both agreed we were ready, we went to a jewelry place and I picked out the ring I wanted, and we were then engaged lol

I don't know...of all the posts we discuss on FDS; the waiting-for-a-proposal ones are the most infuriating to me! I feel like it's the hallmark of where we are as a society, women begging for marriage from LVs.

Maybe it's because I went through something like this myself. My ex and I were supposed to get engaged shortly after we moved in together but he waited 7 more months. I kept waiting and I was sooooo frustrated, and all my friends and family were asking me when we were getting engaged. It was humiliating. Even though he finally did propose, by then the enthusiasm was gone! Of course, when I broke up with him he BEGGED me to marry him. Um, you had your chance scrote!

she leaves; starts anew; has everything to gain.
she stays, becomes a forever GF, has his kids, gets in debt with him, cosigns for his gadgets; reaches 37 with kids and a man that treats her like shit. he doesn't even bother to hide his cheating (because he will cheat). 2+ kids and no marriage = perfect ground for him starting a second family. dumps her when she gets a health hiccup and starts "enforcing boundaries" (sweetie, you cannot enforce boundaries after years of relationship! it's break up material!). dumps her and goes to stay with his new girl who is early 20s.
