Men like being lied to and are delusional enough to think a prostitute likes them/having sex with strangers multiple times a day just because that's what she's telling her paying customers, and that waitress is just always super nice - not because of the money exchanging hands, but because they are such nice guys and it's all done with consent. They don't want to see the cold hard truth.

It drives me batshit crazy when people compare prostitution to menial jobs. Having sex that you don’t desire is inherently traumatizing, whether you’re a man, woman, or a child. In fact, we have a word for it - it’s called “rape.” People often need years of therapy after being roofied, and that’s when they don’t even have any memories of their rape, that’s how traumatizing it is. You don’t even have to remember it for rape to hurt you.

Being forced by desperation to have sex that you don’t want is NOTHING like having to flip burgers when you don’t want to. One of them is called rape, and the other is....flipping burgers.

It’s so tasteless and tone-deaf to compare rape to menial jobs, and the analogy falls apart the moment you apply critical thinking and an ounce of compassion for women instead of obediently accepting the rapist’s narrative.

I really can't stand the normalization of sex work, especially in the rise of popularity of middle-class/affluent (usually white) girls that treat it like a side gig. This is super common on Twitter and stuff and it's so gross. No, like it's hard and degrading work and I think it's disgusting that they think sex can be so commodified. I absolutely support sex workers that do it because they have no other choice, but stupid little girls that choose to do it because they just want extra money they don't need? Like get a job lol.

Prostitution is not only degrading. It is killing. According to the research conducted in the US , prostitution is one of the most dangerous professions; worse than Alaskan fisherman, or loggers, or oil rig workers. The death rate for prostitutes in the U.S. is 204 out of every 100,000. For fishermen, it is 129 out of every 100,000.

Also as showed on the link above, 67 % of prostitutes met criteria for diagnosis of PTSD. More than war veterans.

Some people argue that they're worried about trafficking. But, the police can pursue trafficking without cracking down on the entire profession.

Does Legalized Prostitution Increase Human Trafficking? — "The scale effect of legalizing prostitution leads to an expansion of the prostitution market and thus an increase in human trafficking, while the substitution effect reduces demand for trafficked prostitutes by favoring prostitutes who have legal residence in a country. There are a large number of people who voluntarily work in this industry because its lucrative and preferable to being in a cubicle.

Personally I don't want to live in a society full of sex buyers. And as shows that research most of the men will not buy sex if they may be charged with small fine.

Obviously, its better if sex workers can call the police, instead of relying on pimps or other criminal types.

Let me introduce you the Swedish model. It is based on decriminalizing prostitutes, helping them to leave it, offering support. In this model Sex worker can call the police and will not have to deal with any consequences.

For prostitutes this approach is better than legalization, and it is proved by researches. Legalization model is good only for pimps.
