A lot of my south asian sisters get a lot of shit for not wanting to get married asap.

Maybe south asian communities should focus on the lack of respect and proprierty by dusty south asian men to the young women. Instead of telling women that they should look for a husband and drop their standards, they should get the men to raise their status both mentally and physically.

Just told my uncle about my plans of going abroad to teach in the UAE (pay is 45k+ a year which is double what I get now) and might not return to London ever. He said if I leave it too late I will become a lonely old spinster. Keep chatting shit uncle. 🤮

I'm not a project for super religious Muslim as they want to turn me into a hijabi barbie for them and I'm not in the mood to mess around with low value liberal Muslim men.

this is a really big thing in south asian communities. because so much of our culture is based around families and having children, we need women to not be ambitious career and education wise. they train women from birth to want babies and husbands, to endure abuse because its 'our culture' to 'never divorce no matter how bad he is' because 'you dont want to bring shame onto the family name'.

the men of course have nothing to say, they are happy and love the current system but things are changing. more women are focusing on their independence and financial freedom. before a woman was discouraged from getting a degree and a job, she had no choice but to marry and depend on a man. nowadays women will only marry men they love, men who respect them

I'm a 26 year old south Asian female and being bothered by everyone about getting married. I moved out years ago and have a very promising career. This has definitely given me the confidence to hold my ground in front of my parents about my choices and has moved me out from a toxic environment. While the dudes my age in the community are not even asked about marriage while I am a ticking time bomb. I hope I can be a role model for other younger girls around me.

This depressing narrative, that women 'expire', is present in many cultures and is a big scam. It serves the purposes of lowering women's self-esteem, derailing her youth away from career and education, all so that men have a better chance of getting with them. Almost all of the patriarchy in some way exists to mitigate a woman's power and value, because otherwise so many men would have no chance. It's interesting to me that rather than take it as an opportunity to level up, men are lazy and machiavellian and would rather bully the shit out of women rather than look in a mirror.
