Whenever I talk about how the cultural expectation that women remove their body hair has us mimicking prepubescent bodies and that the practice was artificially indoctrinated into us by companies looking to sell a product, there's usually at least one woman who feels the need to chime in that she TOTALLY shaves her legs for herself. It's like they're incapable of recognizing that they weren't raised in a vacuum and that they internalized the sexism our society is steeped in.

Do they honestly believe a single cavewoman was wasting valuable time doing shit like scraping the hair off her leg with sharp seashells because she just loooved the feeling of being smooth that much? And I guess it's just a coincidence that approximately 0% of hetero men shave their legs for themselves. Some of them will do it if they swim competitively or whatever but gl finding one (that doesn't have a "sissification fetish" or something) that's like, "Teehee, I just love the feeling of having smooth legs SO much! LOVE spending money on razors! LOVE ingrown hairs and razor burn! LOVE adding even more time to my shower routine!" 🙄
