I’m dealing with this at this very moment. My two friends in were explaining for like an hour all this chummy bullshit about “when he’s ready” and when I was being real with them (just saying general things like “oh that’s bullshit” and “look at their actions not at their words”) my friend said something so insulting and I’m still reeling from it and I don’t know if I should confront her. She said “omg with that attitude I can’t believe your parents aren’t divorced!” But with a very incredulous and serious tone. Coming from a girl with divorced parents. That shit is really insulting. My parents stayed together and have strict standards because they’re really serious about providing me the best future. At times I did wish they get divorced, but ultimately I love my intact family and it was for the best. It’s her birthday today and we’re a car ride to go to a cabin so I’m wondering if I should confront her not today but maybe when we’re back. I rescheduled a flight back home to visit my parents to be here. I hate taking the day off work and I took it off for her and I don’t remember her saying thank you. I hate to be such a negative Nancy but she really put me in a bad mood today. I’m gonna take deep breaths, force a smile, do my own thing, and reassess the friendship and myself after this weekend. I’ll be fine.

I vacillate. There have been some successful teaching moments and it’s so rewarding when a person actually gets it. But I can gauge receptiveness pretty early on and if it’s not happening, I save my energy for more worthwhile emotional labor.
