Not only this which is such solid advice, but I notice men get far more hung up on that concept than we do. It's easy to become the one who got away for THEM when you level up and never look back.

This phrase does not reflect reality indeed. I do not regret for anyone I’ve broken up with. On the contrary, sometimes I remember past relationships and I am like “How the fuck I dated this trash, good decision that I broke up with him”.

My most recent ex decided to act like we were on break when I dumped him/kicked him out before the pandemic really took flight in the US. He would message me from his new "roommate's" residence and tell me about how he was drinking more water and/or working out.

I wouldn't msg him back. I was way too pissed. Wtf was I even supposed to say? Responding would be validating his late attempt at something low effort.

Like, seriously. Good for you but you're not coming back here. I'm tired of your bullshit.

I am not holding a 26 yr old man's hand through his entire fucking life just because his parents didn't teach him shit. That responsibility shouldn't fall to me.

Yup! Ever since FDS, I stopped believing that ‘the one that got away’ even exists. When relationships don’t work out, it is what it is. Often we women are taught to romanticize those relationships (either because we haven’t been shown basic decency before in our family dynamic or we’ve only ever dated LVM and so we put a man who pulls in the bare minimum on a pedestal) but we really shouldn’t. He’s either with you because he wants to be with you or he’s not because he doesn’t want to be with you. There is no gray area.
