It's 2021, and girls are both sold and "rented" by their parents in many countries.

It's 2021, and an American friend of mine in a red state felt that she had to get her father's permission to go on birth control to treat her excruciatingly painful periods. She was 25 and self-supporting, but if she hadn't gone to her father for permission first, her family might have assumed she was "whoring around."

This $hit is deeply entrenched all over the world. It's not going away anytime soon.

Holy fucking shit. Sounds like the same Dr. I went to a few years ago. She refused to sterilize me (I was 23-24 at the time) "even if I was in my 30's and had 5 kids" because it wouldn't be "morally right." She claimed to be childfree too, so why was it ok for her but not for me? I switched Dr.'s and I got my procedure.

She has to also openly complain about the obgyn. India is a place where there's no place to report these things and even if there were nothing would be done about it. Doctors can continue practicing no matter what they do. She needs to name and shame for it to have any effect.

I'm from India too. Many gynaecologists here have regressive beliefs and biases. I've had several bad experiences.

At the age of 25 I went to a doctor for possible vaginismus. She said she wouldn't treat an unmarried virgin girl for vaginismus and asked me to come back after I'm married. She refused to even examine my vagina for fear of breaking the hymen.

Recently I went to another doctor for irregular periods. From my appearance she assumed I was a teenager and asked me how recent my menarche was. I told her I was 31 and my menarche was 18 years ago. Then she goes "I thought you were 18! If you're 31, why aren't you married?". I had to visit her a couple of times more for the scan and test results, and every time she kept giving me a hard time for not being married. I never went back after that.

Mainstream India has a long way to go, but as a culture, they are transitioning into a more modern approach.

India is very conservative--in general--and very much so when it comes to sex and sexuality. Especially after the British COLONIZED Indian culture. India gained independence from the UK only 74 years ago (my MOM is older than that!)

And the British made sure they left an epic mess behind (kinda like Donald Chump...)

India has only started relaxing that conservatism since the early 2000s.
