Haha, 90% of the stuff I talk about with other guys in private is just what we're watching or reading. Common interests. Sex topics rarely even come up. Although in my case that might be because I'm single and a lot of my friends have had stable relationships for a few years.

It starts of football banter because sports is always the way into conversations. Then its usually work, the monotony of adult life, family. If partners come up its simply asking how are they and then convo about plans etc.

This kind of boring chat is probably true of most male friend groups because we are men, and not the letterman jacket wearing jock stereotypes of womens teenage dramas who they simultaneously had crushes on and hated.

The problem as I see it is that these types of women see men as nothing more than the culmination of the stereotypes they have in their heads of what it is to be a man, based largely on academic feminist literature and ideologically slanted media making money off of a social trend. Ironically, given that these are the same types to speak about lived experiences and how one group is unable to understand the lives of another because they do not have their lives experience, they do tend to see themselves as the authority on how men think, act and see the world and take it upon themselves to speak for men, whilst simultaneously encouraging men to be silent on how they experience life.

Okay first of all, how many times does she think we need to talk about women we have been with, before it’s a worn out topic?

Yeah I’ve talked about girls with my best friend before, which I have a right to do, but I’m not going to just repeat this topic over and over again. With that said, the last time me and my BFF had this kind of conversation was literally almost a decade ago; and I don’t talk about my sex life with anyone but my closest friend, so my other guy friends have never had this conversation with me at all.

This is really just as stupid as thinking all we talk about is football, it is a refusal to see our humanity.

They wish. Mostly when I am hanging out with dudes the last thing we want to talk about is women. We talk about all the shit we like that women usually aren't interested in. For me it's sport, politics and hunting. This is a female fantasy that plays into women's egos, that is why they like to believe it.

You might find some teenagers talking like that, but I'd bet that was mostly out of insecurity and thinking that's how they should behave. I've never heard adult men actually talk like that.

Women on the other hand, as far as I can tell, nothing much is off limits.

Attraction is a big one that bothers me a lot.

I've had extremely good female friends think that all men talk about when they are alone is women. Whether objectifying or shaming them. It was funny when she applied it to me, because I don't speak about people's appearances and very rarely find someone "hot" enough to warrant instant attraction.

It seems a lot of people want to attribute the actions of men who are loudspoken about their attraction (or lack thereof) as being a result of something men are always thinking about. That could not be further from the truth.

Yeah, I always felt like that was projection. Obviously this is anecdotal and obviously we’re all individuals. However, when I started getting more female friends I was shocked by just how explicitly they talked about sex and sexuality. I’ve heard them talk about BDSM methods, how often they orgasm, their favorite places for sex, etc. I have a female friend who’s been shown nudes of friends’ boyfriends without either consent from the boyfriend or warning before showing the pictures. By contrast the most explicit sexual talk I’ve heard from men is along the lines of “I fucked her once” and “She’s hot”!

I agree with you. The idea of locker room talk in high school and college is because there are one or two guys who are at the top of the pyramid and they tend to brag because most guys are lucky just to get one girlfriend in highschool.

IT's not about the sex it's about the bragging by the top men. The very ones that women are throwing themselves at.

As for me, I have never like crude conversations. I do like to know if she makes you laugh or if she is kind. If a guy brags about his girlfriend's breast I generally don't hold out much hope for that relationship.

Men don't talk about sex. They just don't. There is a lot of bragging going on especially amongst the young men. But that's mainly guys talking about some women they banged that none of their friends have seen. It's no different then bragging about their car being the fastest, mobile phone the most expensive and the amount they can drink. Sometimes there are also mentions about some girls being hot and what they would do to them but that's more bragging.

But when it comes to sex? Men do not talk about it. Partially because there's an expectation that they always must be the best lover that knows everything and does all the work in bed so no guy will ever admit they are not the sex god. Men don't talk about their favourite positions. They don't talk about toys the use in bed. They don't talk about their partners. They don't talk about their own or their partners preferences. Women are a lot more open when it comes to such things but they are also a lot more willing to share information their partners consider private.

When I was younger, I used to talk a lot with other boys about girls, but not like locker room talk, more like... well, here. What we wanted from girls, what problems there were approaching them and being honest to them. Sometimes advice from more successful boys, but seldom in a bragging way. Sometimes about how beautiful a specific girl was, but admiringly, never rude.

What men really can endlessly talk about? Music. Famous bands we both liked, or obscure bands we both liked, or that only one of us knew. Letting the other hear some music, lending him records. I've had this with virtually all good male friends, and with virtually no female friends; the difference is tremendously big.

Dude, i understand you. My female friends and cousins are always like "you guys talk about sex all time", like no? The topic of sex or sexuality makes up like %10 of the conversation. At most, maybe half of the conversation. And that happens when lets say we start talking about girls that we have a crush on and etc. Like, we really dont talk about sex that much like what most of girls think.

Women and men aren’t that different when it comes to social interaction.

Men talk about their partners and women talk about their partners too, likely to the same extent. She’s likely projecting.

Also, her friends likely know as much about your relationship as your friends know about your relationship from you
