Yeah, as others have said, don't get married. It's gonna get to the point where if they know you have bitcoin but "lost it," then they'll simply garnish your wages until you've paid at least half of what you "had" to your wife.

Guys continuing down the marriage route deserve no more simpathy at this point. If guys are still dumb enough to play the game, then they better prepare to suffer the consequences.

The higher end divorce attorneys are getting wise to Bitcoin and crypto in general. If you are going to go that route you will need to either buy it anonymously and have a dummy wallet with a inconspicuous amount in it.

I would also suggest looking into privacy coins specifically Monero which is the most widely adopted and generally used one when remaining anonymous is concerned.

If you're married then you'll likely soon be divorced. My advice to you is withdraw $100 per week, month, whatever you can do with your budget. Hide the cash. When you have enough saved up to buy a 1 oz gold coin like an eagle or maple leaf then buy it. That little coin is over $2k. Easy to hide that little fucker and untraceable in a divorce. Hopefully you have 20-30 of them, off the record, sitting somewhere to start your new life with because she and her lawyer will absolutely drain you. If you have children you'll be paying child support for 18 years.

Sock away that coin.

My guess is, like with everything else, if they have any idea they'll divide based on 'projected value' or whatever, and you'll wind up owning her an equivalent amount. Same thing happens if you get divorced and the man had a job where he made so many thousands per year. Spousal support/child support is calculated off of what he could make, not what he's making at the time of divorce.

That raises an interesting question though

Suppose one was to lie his way out and claim he lost his seed phrase, and they let him off the hook since those assets are considered 'gone' or whatever (a likely story, you will probably see bars if you try this). But if you bought a 'shetload' of bitcoin on an exchange, then there's a photo ID and SSN attached to that buy order, exchange BTC address that sends a 'shetload' of bitcoin to a wallet. So they know the address that received it is linked to you. If that wallet went hot again and someone noticed, I'm sure you'd be in for much worse. And to cash out your bitcoin valued in millions, you'd either need to find a lot of under the table buyers looking for small amounts, or definitely get noticed by some feds.

Personally this is why I like Monero, because it's anonymous. I think of the bitcoin block explorer as 'if I have your address it's like I can look at your checking account history'. Because you can see everything that comes in and out, and their final balance, and if they're really determined to get it because there's a lot of $ to be found, they will get it. If you try to pull a fast one they will see where it went. Monero isn't like that. If you sent your bitcoin to exchange for Monero they'd see the bitcoin come in and the exchange posting a Monero transaction on the way out; if you sent that to an intermediate wallet, then from that wallet to the real one(s), they wouldn't be able to tell if you still held that Monero or what you did with it at all unless they got your seed phrase and accessed your wallet; if you were smart and had a lot, you would probably have wallets and not store the seed phrase in the same place, so if they find just one, the damage isn't so bad. Granted, 1) getting out quickly and undetected will still be difficult, and 2) the feds are taking an interest in cracking Monero so we'll see if it stands up, but just know that trying to hide with Bitcoin is way outdated.

The time and energy to hide assets is worth it but be smart about it. Psychologically it's also beneficial because your working towards your freedom. I rat holed $100 here and there until I was broke on paper. Get valuables out of the house to that aren't noticable and dont have a paper trail. I wish I would have sold some more stuff before I filed that had a paper trail and rat holed the profit but I still did ok. I saved enough for a new start. I took the projected 34k I was going to have to pay her down to 23k.

You will get a 1099 which is also sent to the IRS for any profits on bitcoin. I don't think they're actually profits until you withdraw them. It's like stocks. So if you do get divorce raped, she'd get half your bitcoins.

Not a clue on what they can do with your Bitcoin. Could become a problem if you deny having it and then try to spend it later on as it can be traced. Maybe look into converting your Bitcoin to Monero if this concerns you. Completely private.

This is already a legal issue that's popping up. The problem is keeping your mouth shut and only talking to your lawyer.

They basically have to prove you have the crypto. Which is why in the US you can't buy crypto with a credit/bank card anymore.

I would suggest privacy based crypto (monero) or actual peer to peer coins like Doge & BitCoin Cash.

They can't force your wallet, they just say you now owe your wife whatever compensation for assets they think you're hiding from her. And forensic accountants will come up with a number that you go to jail for if you don't pay

The winning strategy: 1: email wife getting her approval or knowledge that you are investing in crypto. 2. But a ton of Bitcoin and move to offline wallet. (Or several iterations of wallets) 3. Quietly “lose offline wallet” 4. When divorce filed, you suddenly discover you were scammed and Bitcoin money stolen. Get a police report showing how you were scammed and lost bitcoins.
