I cannot FUCKING stand boomers. They are the most decadent, narcissistic out of touch (especially economically) people on this planet. I absolutely loathe that generation.

I love my parents, but I can't really bring myself to want to talk to them any more. I call my dad maybe three or four times a year on birthdays and holidays. He still thinks you can raise a family of four on a hardware store clerk's pay. No matter how many times you try and get him to understand that the 1980 dollar has the buying power of $0.30 today, it just doesn't sink in. I'm a train conductor and I make six figures in Southern California. My dad also made the same figures as a fire fighter, but my wages have the buying of 30,000 1980 dollars per year....and maybe far less considering the outrageous cost of living here. Then consider I'm divorced with two kids...so halve my salary.

I was with my dad at a U-Haul rental place a while ago. He started chatting up the clerk about a job opening for me. "I just don't understand why you don't leave that bullshit job you're working and work some place like this". he remarked. He frequently puts my job down and doesn't understand my shit position is more due to being divorced and being raked through the coals than working the job I have.

"Sure dad. Trying to live on half of minimum wage in Southern California sounds like a solid plan." ...you fucking asshole.

I about disowned him.

Other boomers I encounter are equally out of touch in different ways.

All the senior conductors and Engineers at work won't fucking retire and make way for junior conductors. The only way to get better seniority, assignments or promote is to wait for these fuckers to croak. They just won't retire.

I'm a boomer. Fourth child of eight siblings. Had to work for everything I've ever had. Married and raised my kids in the 80's in a home we bought. Bought my first PC with internet in 1991 and encouraged my kids to learn it. NO CABLE TV. My three kids have a great work ethic and all own their own homes. So I don't know about other boomers, but none of these derogatory comments are relevant to me.

Ok. I may get some hate, but ... as a late boomer (born in 1960), I'm getting a bit sick and tired of hearing millennials bitch about how tough they have it.

Here's what I see as a guy in the trades. Most guys under the age of 40, either don't show up on time, drag ass most of the day complaining about the work, or last one or two days and disappear. Had a job in a turn of the (last) century house. Full gut on plaster and lath. I was 50 or so at the time. My buddy and co-worker around 40. We were hauling out 50# buckets of plaster to a dumpster two flights of stairs down. We went through, count 'em, 5 guys half our ages who couldn't hack it. And all of these guys had said they were "desperate" for work. Yeah, the work sucked. We were paying twice the minimum wage at the time. And these pampered snowflakes couldn't hack it.

The work is out there. The money is out there. What I see the most out of millennials is either no critical thinking skills -- i.e. if you don't tell them how to do something, they are unable to figure it out on their own. Or, they are just flat out lazy and blame their problems on everyone else or something "out of their control".

Life changes. Opportunity is out there. As the saying goes, you can't be a success if you don't show up.

Yeah, a whole bunch of boomers are suffering from rectal cranial inversion. But, guess what? A lot of millennials are just entitled, lazy, snowflakes looking for shortcuts to success. Got news for you. There are no shortcuts.

I'm done shaking my rake now ...
