Just to put in perspective:

The boyfriend finally finished his phd. He wants to have a future with me. But I have a strong feeling his attitude will change when he starts working. I grew up poor as shit, but I am successful enough at my job of pouring scalding hot espresso at a global coffee conglomerate. I'm 37 and have been careful to not have gotten married or have kids until the timing was right. I feel he will become destructive once it sets in he is making big money. He has never worked, and his family bought him a house and paid for his education before I met him. But based on my experience, expectations are about to go through the roof. I am not sure what will happen; I don't want to waste my time, but it seems other men have become a lot more awful and fatter the last 5-10 years. Not sure what to do.

It should be very interesting. In my experience people who have everything handed to them don't handle adversity very well (male or female).

Don't make any significant changes - no engagement, wedding date, etc. See how she handles a work environment and a daily grind.

A PhD does not guarantee that she will make more than you. Especially since she never worked. I have met women with masters and PhD degrees that insist on dating someone who holds a high level degree. Meanwhile these women get their PhD’s in psych, social work, or art history....while flaunting the “Dr.” in their name. Even with their PhD’s they get paid shit, and live like shit. Don’t be impressed with her title, and certainly don’t be intimidated by it.

My wife's attitude changed the second she crossed the graduation platform and got her masters. She instantly started looking at me with the "Well what are you doing" sort of eyes. It didn't matter that I was the one working the whole time she was in school.

It happened to a manager of mine as well. As soon as his wife got her degree she left him and the 4 kids by simply telling him that "That life just isn't me anymore".

Guys, I have personal knowledge of a story with some similarities with the OP.

I have a female friend from high school who started dating a brother of a guy friend of mine, when she was around 15 and he (the brother, not my friend) was 17. He was his first boyfriend, she was not his.

Her parents were always against their relation, because they considered themselves of a higher social status (though her maternal grandfather was a shoe maker).

He was not a good student (never finished high school) and started working as soon as he left school, becoming a postman in his early twenties, which he still is.

She finished high school but dropped out on her first year at Uni, and went to work on a bank, because she did not want live with her parents.

On her late twenties she decided to return to Uni, as a working student, and graduated in Law, in her early 30's. Now she's a lawyer in their small town for over 10 years. Does not earn much but is a lawyer, nevertheless.

They are now 48 and 46 years and been together all this time, being married for more than 10 years. They are childless.

She never smoked or drank. He was a smoker when they started, but quit smoking some years later.

As I see it, they are good, and are going to live together until one of them dies.

Is she an unicorn? I don't know. She was moderately attractive when she was young (about a low 7 in my memory), and has not aged very well nor very bad.

Maybe hardship bonded them hard, maybe is just chance, maybe they will split up in the future. But knowing them and the time and circumstances they've been through, I doubt this last one.

I know this is not a very MGTOW story, but we like reality and facts, and those are facts.

Not to seed any doubt in OP or any one. Knowing what I know today, I sincerely believe that if he marries and/or have kids with her, it will end bad for him.

But my advice would, in this situation, be more cautious than most of the people around here. Red pill yourself, get to know you very well, first, and then to know her very well (as in you can predict most of her actions and reactions). And be *very* alert...
