There's a three really important things I try to share with younger men (besides never get married).

(1.) Have a healthy, well-thought-through life-plan for yourself and own it to such an extent that literally everyone you come into contact with--knows you will not deviate from it for ANYONE. Ive been living my plan for the last 30 years that I developed when in my first year in college. It amazes me how having that plan and owning it 100% has reduced the level of stress and has enriched my life overall.

(2.) Save and invest: When times are tough, save. When times are flush, save more. I'm not saying don't have fun, just budget for it and STICK TO THE BUDGET!

(3.) Live BELOW YOUR MEANS: Financially shoe-horning yourself into that big house, flashy cars and flashy toys may not be the best move. What if you get laid-off, have to move? Becoming a reluctant Landlord isn't fun, i.e., getting a 3am phone call that your tenant's ADHD kid flushed a kitten down the toilet, blocking the sewer line.

Like the poster says, live below your means, have fun within reason and be prepared as possible for whatever may come.

I dress casual, eat on the cheap, my appliances are old and my furniture's a little rough around the edges. You know...women's worst nightmare. No one would know what I'm worth by seeing me on the street or walking into my small home. The only giveaway might be my Dodge Challenger...my one and only luxury.

I have fun and am looking forward to a reasonably comfortable retirement in 2 to 3 years. Life's good.

If you have money to blow, it is fun to do this on rare occasion. Rent an exotic car, dress nicely, split a VIP, have a blast with your real friends, laugh at the fake friends that come out of the woodwork, bring some cute bitch back to a nice airbnb, gag her while calling her a whore, after you bust a nut down her throat realize she's not that cute without her makeup and ghost her ass.

Why not be a part of this illusion sometimes. Just don't do it as a lifestyle unless you want to lose your sanity.

My mom just asked me for $1000 because she knows I have it. Her landlord is threatening to evict her (for bullshit reasons in her defense). I told her there was no way I'd be paying it.

Put your money in something boring like stocks or bonds instead.

Minimalism,Zen,and existentialism have enabled me to live intentionally. I now, as in my youth , live below my means without the distractions of debt and family. What others perceive is and should be immaterial. Cultivate associations which challenge your mindset rather than those which reinforce. Argument and debate will keep you on your toes.

I had a thought that women should do the same, they shouldn't play up their attractiveness. Makeup and revealing clothing make men lust after them for the wrong reasons. They should hide it and desire a man to love them as a person not a figure. Two cents.

I just learned this very thing. And surprisingly enough it's making me accumulate more and more savings. I'm like Jay Leno wearing the same outfit when ever I'm not at work.

The amount of money men spend to get female attention is absolutely staggering. The west is designed to get men to spend. Women already spend like crazy, and then get men to do their bidding for them. The only reason this is starting to blow up in their face is that women don't want to do the things men expect them to do if they spend all this money on them. They'd rather make False rape and abuse allegations than have to give consistent blow jobs and home cooked meals, clean house etiquette etc.

I dated a couple run way models (who are literally out of their minds, most models) and most of them had HORRIBLE hygiene. Almost like they knew they didn't even have to try because guys would still pander to them. Simply put these girls smelled. Body odor, but not the good gym sweat kind. It was The "I want to throw up in my mouth, and I'm losing my hard on" type of odor. One girl literally had halotocis, and when I brought it up to her, her response was something like "yeah I know..."and then she just brushed it off like no big deal... it had nothing to do with her needing to brush or use mouth wash (which she also rarely did). Her diet was so poor that it was giving her halotocis. Fucking christ.

And guys are spending money on these train wrecks trying to get their attention. Unbelievable. Save your money fellas. Invest it. Put it into a 401k. Live below your means like op states.

I don't make alot of money but since it's only me I have to spend on, I'm able to buy high quality organic meats (very expensive), high quality supplements, and eat like a king. I'm in the greatest shape I've ever been in and it's only getting better. And all because I've decided to focus on myself and my hobbies/goals. Life is good. Real good.

PS: it's not about how much you make btw. But how you spend. Ince you fugure that out and live well below your means you'll be unstoppable

Yeah.... something over here in the USA that most people don't know about is the cost of certain vehicles. Everyone knows that Audi's and I also am doing very well with my business and bought a really nice truck. Not lifted or anything nothing flashy, but it's a $70k truck. So with my wealth i did buy something expensive... not flashy and i use it as a TRUCK! it's already filthy within a month and some change already getting dents in the bed because i get to use it. Anyways, hide that wealth!

I don't totally agree. I think the WHY is important with how you use your resources. If I buy a plane, or a boat, it won't be because I am trying to show off- I buy those things because their is no freedom like flying, and a solo sailing trip can be one of the greatest pleasures in the world. It is possible to both save for retirement and have fun now- big problem, for me at least, many of the things I enjoy will be hard to do in my old age- a particular one being motocross. There is a reason it is dominated by younger guys- it is a VERY physically demanding sport- and one I would gladly deep thousands into equipment, bikes, and a truck for, because it is a hobby I will be physically incapable of doing later.

building wealth is not rocket science and anyone can (theoretically) do it. It just takes time and discipline. And you don't need any of those stupid self help/feel good books like "rich dad poor dad" or "millionaire next door". How do I know? Because I did it. I am that "millionaire next door" but you would never know it to look at me (actually if you saw my house you probably would)

Simple keys to "success"

start early as possible. Live below your means and save, save, SAVE. Set short, mid and long term plans and stick to them. Short is 1-2 years. Long is 20-30 years. They are not set in stone, I constantly modify mine, but the direction is set. Patience is a virtue. you will need it!
Saving money is a first step but you MUST learn to make it work for you. Learn about money and investing and risk. This takes time and will involve some pain. But for me this is very enjoyable, its my hobby, I love the game, the risk and reward and have learned I have a very high risk tolerance. Not having a wife or kids that could suffer from my decisions makes this a LOT easier. Not everyone enjoys this. If it stresses you out you can still make it, but it will take longer (lower risk = lower reward = more time)
AVOID LAND MINES! Life is full of them. But hitting one is almost inevitable so dont beat yourself up too much if you do, just avoid the big, self inflicted ones (like marriage). Blowing off a finger is a lot easier to recover from than losing your legs! Women are the most destructive of these booby traps, followed by kids, houses, cars, expensive vacations, etc.
Avoid a lifestyle filled with frivolous spending on clothes, expensive dinners and consumer junk. Learn what "need" really means. It is not hard to find activities/hobbies/passions that can be both rewarding and economical. I have a few expensive things that will last decades (fly rods, bicycle, camera gear). Spending $6K on items that will provide meaningful reward for decades to come makes sense. Spending it on a European vacation is just plain stupid.
there are NO get rich quick solutions. Forget that nonsense. Just keep learning and experimenting. The internet makes it so much easier now than when i started investing and saving in the mid '80's.

Completly agree with this. Not my business, but I would recommend using some of your savings to buy survival supplies to prepare for the worst case scenario. While your peers will be in debt paying off mortages and tuitions, you can have food and water to last months and a bug out strategy.

Practical reason for hiding your wealth: draws little attention from tax authorities. Let it grow in a tax-free or offshore account then retire on some island paradise. It's not just divorce rape, you're looking to avoid being extorted by the government in general.

A few years ago, the thirty-odd people who live in an almost abandoned, American ghost town won one of those Powerball lottery deals after each pitched in a few dollars.

They have not changed their lifestyle a bit, I read.

They were besieged by these CNN reporters demanding what they would do with the money. Other reporters said these people needed to build a huge resort or give the money to the Third World, or make dumb investments, and called the winners idiots for just wanting to live the lifestyle they always had.
