My question is this - what do you suppose motivates these guys? I can’t really accept that the majority them are delusional enough to believe they are scoring points with these women or that it makes them look tough or cool. They’re well aware that most guys will ridicule them, so why do they persist?

I was a simp and an occasional white knight in the past. I can only speak for myself, but here is where I think the motivation was coming from:

To get female validation -- to at least imagine that the women approved of what I was saying.
To do what I thought was right. When I was white knighting (which, fortunately, was not very often), I honestly thought the other guys' behavior was gross and inappropriate. I thought that calling them out was the right thing to do.
I was trying to let the women know that, "Hey, there are good guys out there, not all men are dicks." In a weird way, I was trying to protect the image of men.
I wanted to portray myself as one of those good guys. This overlaps with #1, but it wasn't just about women; it was about managing my impression/image generally. Another word for this would be virtue signaling. Look how noble I am.
It's a self-esteem boost. White knighting entails the perception that you are better than the boorish jerks you are calling out. So, it's an ego boost.
As far as simping goes, that was just traditional blue pill training, through and through.

They are programmed from old tv shows. They legitimately see themselves as the hero. Just look at, for example the insane amount of cringe simping in 80s and 90s anime. Or look at Princess' Bride. A goofy, quirky, fit, tall, sensitive, hardass, handsome, friendly man saves a woman. Now a man who has never actually met real adversity and real threats to their, or someone else's safety thinks that if they see a woman get harassed on the street, they will turn Super Saiyan and rage-rescue her because the sheer force of their righteousness will make them unstoppable. They imagine this sort of scenario and think that all of the men calling a woman out on her bullshit are just bad guy thug cowards or something and they are the underestimated hero.

This mindset only works if women don't have equality under the law and can easily be controlled, so when the "hero" manages to save a "damsel" he can keep her from doing something stupid because she chased drama like Princess Peach when her dumb ass keeps getting "kidnapped" by Bowser. Back in the Victorian era, Peach deserves to be rescued and then treated like a child. In modern times, Peach belongs to the streets because the number of times she was kidnapped is insane.

I used to like a lot of nerdy stuff in High School, and still do a bit, but I have always contrasted it with reality.

In high school, I got sent to the office for saying, "No, woman. I won't buy you lunch. Stop asking." The girl liked me and cried and told a teacher's aide. I legitimately had no idea. I thought she was just after a free lunch.

I've later found that women are okay friends, but I drop them immediately if they cry, need excessive help, or feel entitled to my money or physical labor. If I am going to clean your gutter, or nail baseboard onto your wall, I want at least a gram of weed, dinner, or some free plants from your garden, upfront.

We get enough guys woke up, this entitled period of a superior feminist domination will begin to end. First thing that needs to happen is to make the family courts actually about equality. This is important because when the birth rates really slide, and they will, government will do the same as Europe and import people who will get caught up in the same issues. Here's my theory, in their eyes, if they reject their regular behaviour, what they get is self respect and dignity as a reward, with the possible downside of being closed off, but if they continue their behaviour, they get the payoff of, in their eyes, validation from women and possible partnership in exchange for minor obedience and no autonomy. The rewards of rejecting their behaviour is not tangible, it comes from within, that is, if you don't know you don't have any self respect, you don't need it back, but people always know when someone doesn't like them, so they'll always please people, be it women or otherwise, rather than shake up their entire foundation for a reward they don't really want. If that makes sense.
