Unfortunately this will be presented as: MR opposes ending violence against women (the women part was crossed out).
[–]sibqm_lmvm75 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
It's pretty sad that people actually think that way. If you don't support VAWA because of its lack of concern for other people, then you are labeled as a misogynist who probably wants to best women. :/
[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics62 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Don't believe child sex trafficking is a major problem (as in hundreds of thousands of child sex slaves in every city in america)? Well that means you are in favor of it.
Don't support publicly smearing accused sex offenders prior to a trial and assuming they're guilty? You support rape and child abuse.
It's a very lazy kind of argument. But apparently effective.
[–]pivotpivotpivot23 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
In my experience its extremely effective. I hate that this is the case. Sometimes I am completely ostracized from people because I voice totally appropriate concerns for these things but I'm labeled as a woman beater, pedophile, and rapist...
[–]AryoBarzan24 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Welcome to feminism 101. If you can't win an argument , slander the opposition as a "misogynist".
[–]DinosBiggestFan2 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yep..This post knows what it's saying.
[–]I_DRINK_MTN_DEW-9 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Literally this
[–]Ganswon22 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
OMG, look at what just made it too the front page of r/MensRights:
[–]freelollies8 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
If SRS or /r/Feminism gets wind of that pick, it's going to be a shitstorm
[–]DubiumGuy18 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Women: - "yay for equal rights!"
Everyone else- "yay!!"
Men- "yay for equal rights!"
Everyone else- "OMG SEXIST SCUM!"
Men- :(

Holding violent men accountable for their violence, While ignoring violent women is not very cost effective for taxpayers, because children are now learning unrestrained violence from their mothers.
Most societal violence is coming from the more matriarchal segments of society.
[–]Crimson_D827 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Because the word "everybody" isn't a big enough clue.
[–]theskepticalidealist6 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Ironic really they can claim to be for equality, then efforts to treat DV equally is attacked.
[–]paologallo-5 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yeah, that is what it looks like.
[–]Jazztoken-6 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You guys are literally the only dumb fucks that say shit like this.
[–]PerniciousOne96 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
This is the right answer.
Everyone should be fighting to end violence against anyone.
[–]paologallo-2 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
And let's start by looking at who's committing violence in order to stop it.
[–]godlessmuslim10 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Or by looking at what causes people to cause violence and go from there. Starting with the people makes it easy to get bogged down in the details (on societal level). That's pretty much how rape laws became so... poorly constructed.
[–]theskepticalidealist9 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yea, everyone.
[–]PerniciousOne2 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
You need to remember that the majority of "men" are not the ones committing violence. It is a statistically small group of men who are committing the majority of the crimes.
With the direction that society is going you better start preparing to protect yourself as society is heading in a downward spiral.
[–]Lotus749 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
If there's one thing that feminists love, it's taking an issue that affects everybody and turning it into a gendered issue. You can see it in education, healthcare, charities, homeless and DV shelters, all throughout society.
We need to be promoting stuff like the image in the OP as it shows what MR is about - equality for all, not just one group.
[–]TeaDrinkingBarbarian23 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
It's a fucked up world we live in where we need to point out that equality should be, well, equal.
[–][deleted]7 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
How about feminists focus on women's issues, and mra's focus on men's issues? Crazy, I know.
[–]rhubharb-9 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
however, a lot of these issues disproportionally affect women. (to a lesser degree in america and many other "western" communities, but elsewhere it is often a larger problem).
[–]EvilPundit25 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Actually, a lot of these issues disproportionately affect men - particularly homelessness, suicide, education and healthcare.
But feminists still falsely portray them as disproportionately affecting women.
[–]sixofthebest1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
A lot of issues disproportionally affect men. Do you see them being branded as injustice against men? The elephant in the room is this: society is blind to men's suffering as a gender, the social justice movement included.
[–]Kahlenar-12 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
That's the fault of religion.
[–]MrMacro8 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
What makes you think that?
[–]ChaplnGrillSgt10 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I honestly don't understand what is so hard to comprehend about this. As MRA's we want to end violence. Period. Not just violence against men. Not just violence against women. Not just violence against children. Violence against EVERYONE! It is so unbelievably simple but yet, as it has been mentioned, things like this get twisted into use approving violence against women.
Seriously, the only way that this could be viewed as us approving violence against women is if feminists view women to be non-human and either inferior or superior beings that don't fall into the "everyone" category.
/rant
Nice to see stuff like this. But why write it at all?
"Let's stop violence!!" - Is that even possible?
[–]zoredache3 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Is that even possible?
Probably not. I suspect we would have to start by refusing to accept government violence as being valid. If we can't get beyond violence being OK society wide, then we probably will never be able to violence being invalid as an individual.
One might even argue the threat of violence is required for most governments to even work. Do you think people would pay taxes if there wasn't a implicit threat of violence? That is a refusal to pay would result in the loss of your freedom/property?
[–]LeCercleRouge7 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
This is good. We should be ending violence against everyone. Violence against women especially in domestic situations is a series cultural issue that needs to be dealt with, but the culture as a whole needs to be shifted too. I'm glad there are people like Jackson Katz and Michael Kimmel really out there challenging western societies notions on masculinity and the acceptance of violence.
[–]sixofthebest3 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
EvilPundit is right. Michael Kimmel is a misandrist and is a mere front for feminists propaganda. Read what Michael Kimmel had to say on the subject of Men's Studies
It's actually a term I don't use to describe what I do, since it does have some connotations of "me-too-ism" at best, backlash at worst. (After all, every course without the word "women" in it is a course about men. Except we call them "literature" "political science" or "history") I say I do sociology of gender, from a feminist perspective, and the gender I study is men. (Incidentally, most of the courses taught these days on men and masculinity around the country are taught by feminist women and profeminist men.)
That said, I obviously agree with those who observed that interrogating masculinity can be a vital and necessary extension of the feminist project: making gender visible as a set of power relations. After all, I've devoted my life to it. What better way is there to decenter the hegemonic than to render it visible? Privilege is what keeps priviplege invisible to those who have it, which is why the analogy to interrogating whiteness is apt. If we maintain the fiction that only women are gendered, we buy into the power that keeps masculinity invisble and normative. That is to say, we lose.
I think we need desperately to interrogate masculinity, and critically, to both reveal the dynamics of power and privilege, and also to find those points of entry for men into the discussion of gender equality as allies to women. Critical analysis doesn't mean relentlessly critical of the men themselves. We need to also examine the ways in which men are changing and have changed, and also to suggest the strategies of resistance to male domination that groups of men have developed. There are positive stories out there, and I think men also need to hear them to feel that there is a place for them to begin to unravel the ways in which they (we) have also been shaped by sexism, our lives disfigured by privilege. Of course it's not parallel, equivalent, the "same." No one but Warren Farrell would say something as inane as that. But just as white people need to know how racism has distorted our lives, so too must men see how sexism and homophobia have been the pillars upon which we've built an edifice of masculinity that leaves us feeling empty, defensive, or confused.
[–][deleted]2 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I would say violence against women in domestic situations is a cultural issue which currently IS being dealt with (which is a good thing) and violence against men in domestic situations is an issue which is currently being denied and outright scoffed at. So we need to continue to help women who are in domestic violence situations, and start helping men as well.
[–]EvilPundit-1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Both of those people are feminist shills who push anti-man propaganda. We don't need any of that.
[–][deleted]5 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Great poster. I like that symbol for the O.
[–]WTFppl5 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Just don't forget, you'll have to use some form of violence to protect your life from a violent attack!
I don't know how a society can end violence for everyone when one half basically see no issue with using violence when they're angry against the other in the belief they can't be struck back by their victims, to the point that it's so acceptable it's used massively in the mainstream media.
[–]ALTSuzzxingcoh4 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Cheap post. The reason this /r/ is going downhill.

I don't understand why in today's society, promoting equal rights for EVERYONE and not just women is offensive? Look at what happened in this scenario... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jz63_lGuSE.
The man's poster clearly says "You don't fear and hate women do you? no because you are a decent human being." But when the same is said for men people are offended. What is our world coming too.
Hmm, I love these pleasant moments when I'm reminded why I'm still involved in this community. This is what /r/MensRights needs to advocate, absolutely.

haha awesome :D
[–]VEGETABLE_FART1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
even more impossible than ending violence against women
[–][deleted]1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
What does this have to do with men's rights?
